Dot critical and Pole thrust

How does dot criticals work, ofcourse i need to get WP, but,
does it check chance to crit when casting spell, or before every pulse?
I mean if first one crits, does all other pulses crit too, or is it checked everytime?

Another question, I read somewhere that Polearm Thrust is 100% strenght based. True?

When i played a cave shaman with wp 4, each time i critted the whole dot did after the first tick and thrust pole is 100% str based yes.

So that means i need to take more than WP1 cause 3% wont be effective enough.
