DOOM Movie update

It appears Warner Brothers has passed on the option for the DOOM movie and it has landed in the hands of Universal Pictures. The producers are named as Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, John Wells, and Enda McCallion with the script written by Dave Callaham, which is adapted from the soon to be released DOOM 3 game's storyline.

"The movie rights have reverted to id, as Warner's option period expired. However, we remain a "free agent" at this time and multiple studios are interested in the project. The team of John Wells (ER, et. al.) and Lorenzo DiBonaventura (The Matrix, et. al.) that has been working on the project for over a year will remain affiliated with the DOOM movie. The studio question at this point primarily involves the financing." - John Callaham.

It's a shame someone like Ridley Scott could not direct DOOM. You'd have to be worried if some unknown director gets hold of the film

I'd be far more worried if a director like Spielberg got it (Oh noes, there's a child trapped on mars colony who happens to be a computer genius and has abandonment issues relating to their father, we must rescue them with our team of highly trained killer whateverthefuck).


I'd say someone like Cronenberg could possibly pull it off (he's good with mindfck horror even if it can be extremely odd) though the action parts might be a little dodgy.

My preferred choice for it would be Guillermo del Toro, he does comic book action well (blade 2, Hellboy) and horror/suspense quite effectively too imo (Chronos, Devils Backbone). Two things that would make up a good screen adaption of Doom, that's just my opinion though, which is usually wrong or misled

Movies based on games should be outlawed. Anyone who attempts to make one should be forced to watch the mario brothers movie 100 times before they can be relased back into decent society
