It's news in the UK at the moment about people following Satnavs and getting stuck, well I'mcycling along the paths by our house last night and I came across this Audi.
At first I thought it was stolen-dumped, but then spotted it was locked up.
Cycled back to the proper road and found a sheepish owner, he had followed the sat-nav down a lane I wouldn't take my Grand Cherokee.
I'm amazed he got that far and if you look ahead from that position it looks like something you wouldn't take a tractor down.
The RAC turned up and we had a laugh at his expense, but if you look on Tomtom it is marked as a road.
Really though, what was he thinking?

its almost as funny as my friend avoiding a crash on a country road and swerving into a ditch, her car was on its side and she had to climp out vertically and wait for it to be toed out

rofl sat nav is kind of evil, i mean they ban people from talking on mobile phones (even talk of banning hands free) because its a distraction but its ok for sat nav which you actually have to look away from the road and look at while driving lol silly.

B2's folks have these friends in france and the bloke literally drives by satnav, he doesnt look at the road at all he constantly watches the sat nav screen...which is ok to see where your going but afaik it doesnt show objects like cars, people, bikes etc that are in your path.

You don't have to look at the screen tho.. There's an an annoying voice that tells you where to go..
In truth I find it easier to drive around places I don't know with a sat-nav than without one. Your not trying to catch badly placed signs and swerving about everytime you come to a junction and have no idea which lane your supposed to be aiming for. It's like most things, helpful as long as you don't become totally reliant upon it.

They need to bring out the wife version tho, that tells you 5 meters past every corner that, omg why didn't you turn there you stupid fool and then demands you pull over and ask for directions.

Very true, i regularly go to locations that are out of the way to carry out investigations into paranormal ocurences, 9 times out of 10 i find that the post codes usually end up taking me either to the rear of the property or into the middle of a field adjacent to the property LOL.

The problem with maps is that when you miss a turning because you were in the wrong lane somewhere you don't know your hosed.
You've first got to know that was actually the turning, you've then got to find your way back there which isn't always obvious.

Otherwise you've got to pull over and try to study a map at night in some layby somewhere, then actually remember your now new route given roads often don't actually look the same as they do on a map.

There's just the same chance of you planning a route down that none road while at home with a map since they arn't accurate either (I can tell you of one map on google that contains a road that simply isn't there) but when you get there and the road is missing, you've got much less options about not going down it!

Sat-nav's arn't the problem, it's people replacing their brain with them that is.

read some time ago about a bridge that still appeared on most sat-navs despite it being removed about 10 years ago leading to people continuously driving straight into a river due to their unquestionable faith in sat-navs! the farmer who lived next door to the old bridge started charging people £50 a pop for pulling their cars out claimed to be making about £500 a week doing it too! (though he could get the argos lorry that had got stuck out in the photo i saw lol )

also they dont always mark low-bridges, have seen about 6-7 lorries crashing into bridges simply because they ignored all the "turn here to avoid low bridges" signs :p

Not so long ago we had a visit from Norway here in Sweden, two guys who where out driving with their sat nav, and it had two settings 1 for car and 1 for bicycle, so they had theirs on bicycle and was driving along on the bicycle roads for quite some while until they finally got stuck on a railway crossing.+
