Just watched this film. Wow. (Don't worry, no spoilers, from me at least).
This film really hit the spot with me. After the film ended it left me feeling very erm..satisfied I suppose. (oo-er)
It's a strange film to pigeon hole but I'd say it aludes to a horror movie more than anything but without the gore or the stalk and slash. Gothic may be a good description.
The film's obviously been made by a fan of the genre. Just from my little bit of knowledge I managed to spot quite a few film references throughout.
Some of them I may just be stretching to but theres:
Jenny Augeter (sp) who was in American Werewolf in London
At the start of the film she's reading Steven King's "IT" which precludes a clown turning up later at a key moment in the film.
The main character steals a station wagon - possible reference to Halloween as this is the same type of car Micheal Myers stole.
The film "Halloween" is also playing at a cinema in the film too.
There are characters in the film named after other horror characters....Somebody "Bates" springs to mind as one I noticed (Psycho).
At a halloween party during the film, the main character dresses up as "Eliot" from ET and later on goes on a bike ride with a group of his mates in said costume. Not exactly a horror reference but I thought it was kind of fun.
Frank has a very cool role that relates to another very strong film link within Donnie Darko but I'll leave you guys to figure that one out. Maybe when it's on general release someone else might say it and agree with me.
That's all I can remember right now but I'm sure there's loads more.
You gotta go see this film. It's a very different film from anything that's been out for a long while. It's out on Region 1 DVD to buy right now but it's UK cinema premier was tonight and it comes out on general release next week..I think. Keep an eye out for it.
