I own half a house. Me and Kenny own a house!!! Or rather, today we completed the purchase, and after twenty five years and a shit load of repayments we will own a house.

I'm twitching to commence painting. Its all rather exciting. Poor Kenny's off in Ireland for a funeral, but I have a sneaking suspicion he will find time to get online, so if you do...

WHEN YOU COME BACK IT WILL ALL BE PAINTED FUSCIA!!!

One of the rooms better be green! :p

i remember myself and a tonne of mates started work one evening painting their lounge, aqua blue bottom with a sunset cream top along the walls :) the house hadnt been touched in years of student neglect!

we then commenced to paint the skirting boards, door frames and window frames a dark blue :eek6:

fun part was when we painted the kitchen door with that blackboard paint :D and the lounge door matt black to match it :) since it was a student house the kitchen door became the shopping list and messages to the household :D

wonder what the new residents thought when they moved in...

I don't want to be the spoilsport, but what happens if the property market collapses in 6 months time? :uhoh: I explained how this might happen the last time the subject came up, and tbh, i'll be very surprised if house prices manage to stay at these levels for another year.

I hope you know what you're doing :(

Having studies economics it seems very unlikely that the property market in the south will collapse. This is because of the supply and demand curve theory, wherby the more demand for a limited amount of product (houses) cause the prices to rise, unless the govement is able to build thousands of houses very fast i doubt that the market will collapse. Simply because so many people want to live down here.

Well, from my experiences in the last recession led by the hidious torys, the reason for the decline in house prices came because they put up the interest rates to combat inflation. This meant people could no longer afford their mortgages , which meant people ended up leaving their houses or literally giving them back to the building society or bank.
The Conservatives arguably new this was going to happen before the election, but they lowered interest rates anyway, and the gullible public voted them back in. Inflation went up even more, so the torys put up interset rates , as they were now in power and didnt have to bullshit anyone. But it was too late then, people lost thier houses and many people lost thier jobs. Including me :/

Ahhh but wasn't that when the goverment decieded the rates. Now its done by the bank of england with the goverement having no power over the bank of englands decision. It also seems that this method has removed the dreaded Boom and bust scenario.

Cage, much as I appreciate your oh so intellectually swathed satirical approach thats been chasing me from post to post, I'm not going to stop posting. Your idealism is caught up in an exercise in futility - I talk drivel, its the nature of the beast, even when I play computer games I don't have a sodding clue what I'm doing, so if I was to talk computer talk, or whatever you feel meets your intellectual criteria, you'd understand and care even less than you do now, so your chances of achieving anything worth while are a bit shot. You might be best giving up, sticking me on ignore, or just coming to terms with the fact that I bore you and so its best not to read my threads. I do so hate to see a dog chasing its tail.

And well, if the arse falls out of the property market, then I'm screwed. But if the arse doesn't fall out of the property market and continues rising, I'll never get a foothold as even today we wouldn't be able to afford our house on our mortgage allowance, because of the rise in price since our bid being put in and actually buying the property. So then I'd be screwed. So I either buy now or I hope wildly that it does crash and wait until that happens. And wait. And wait. And throw money away renting a property, just money into thin air. So its all a bit dodgy, whatever way you look at it. But at least this way I get to stay put, so where my money is going and have some control over my living environment.

If the property market collapses rest assured it will be a short-term thing. All you have to do is stay put for a few years and prices will start recovering again.

The trick is to get a mortgage (whenever you decide to buy a house) that isn't a serious stretch for you to pay at the moment - ie. leave yourself a bit of breathing room.

That was the mistake my wife & I made - we bought a house we could only *just* afford which left us in a nice house but utterly skint and deeply in debt. When things started going wrong there was nothing we could do and after we seperated the only option left was selling the house.

Brave people. I've gotta decide on buying or renting next year when my fiancee moves out of student halls. I wanna buy, but house prices in Luton have gone up by about 20 grand a year and it's very scarey if this doesn't continue.
