Basically I'm after a cheap (i.e less than £120) dolby digital decoder. What I'm trying to do is connect my xbox360 sound to my Creative inspire 6700 speakers. The cable I have ordered to connect the xbox to my tft has a optical out on it, so i gathered that would be the route i'd follow.

I need advise on a decoder though as its not a purchase I've made before. the ones I've found thus far are rather expensive, i actually found one + speakers on ebay for cheaper than what i've found decoders themselves, and I already have speakers.

Help, please :)

You will never got true 5.1 or 6.1 sound using pc speakers. First of all, pc speakers use different kinds of wiring, so you can only use them on soundcards. They also use a totally different scheme to give you 5.1 sound, so you won't be able to connect them on the receiver

The only way you gonna have 5.1 sound with your xbox is to buy a digital receiver with speakers and connect the x-box via optical cable or buy x-box specific 5.1 speakers.
