on loading an NGI server i got the message "oh how smurfy you are." Whither the admin is mad, or little blue things are hacking again i dont know, but this must be stopped.

Were you using an alias at the time?
That might explain part of it as another name for an alias is a smurf.

Otherwise I'd say that The Smurf Tribe are taking over servers.
