now here's a question that causes a lot of debate...some of you may know what abandonware is, and some may not, so i'll just give a brief explanation..
The abandonware community is a group of people who belive that 'abandoned' games, that is, games no longer sold or supported by their authors or other retail sites/companies, should be available freely for download, as the companies no longer gain any profit from them.
But the IDSA, copyright protectors for a group of software companies, ranging from accolade to microsoft and beyond, are giving the abandonware community a very hard time, threatening court cases and the like because the software abandonware sites distribute is still copyrighted, even though the companies don't sell/support the title any more.
The question i put forward yo tou is this: Do you agree with the stance the abandonware community has, or do you belive that no, copyright is copyright, and there should be none of this abandonware stuff.
There's more to it, like all the Warez kiddies coming in with their 'Oldwarez' philosophy, and other stuff, but the central idea is that 'abandoned' games should still be available. Example: do you think ANY game company/store would still sell 'Sopwith'? (if you remember that game)
But anyway, please post comments/flames here.

it's sad, but some games have to be abandoned after a while. They shouldn't be just for Christmas but sometimes it's just the way it is. My grandad once said to me, 'they've been to the moon now? What the hell is the point of that? Nothing up there, daft buggers.'

Does that come under 'A', 'B' or 'C'?

I agree with the community - companies no longer profit off the games, nor have an opportunity to do so as the games are now out of circulation.

What is the copyright limit on games, anyway? 30 years, 70, or something else altogether?

Answers on a postcard, rat fans.
