Do we need a Video Gamers Anonymous?


Addiction has been defined as ”A primary, chronic disease, characterized by impaired control over the use of a psychoactive substance and or behavior. Clinically, the manifestations occur along biological, psychological, sociological and spiritual dimensions”
Video game addicts are often described by clinicians in the field as displaying many symptoms characteristic of other addictions.
These behaviors include;
1 failure to stop playing games,
2 difficulties in work or school,
3 telling lies to loved ones,
4 decreased attention to personal hygiene,
5 decreased attention to family and friends, and
6 disturbances in the sleep cycle



So what do ppl think? i would say that the majority of ppl who play daoc fall into one of the six above.

Regarding point 6, staying up to go to a raid is wrong yet if someone stays up late to watch a film it's completely fine?

Don't get me wrong, I realise some people do have problems but I know people who can spend an entire evening in front of the television and think nothing of it, yet when I say I just played an online game for 2 hours, I'm regarded as an addict

The last one is the only ever one which has changed because of games for me but then, I work nightshifts anyway now so in a way it helped

I think only extreme cases of any of those points really matter, doing any of them to a small degree (non repeated) is not an addiction at all.

I'd rather play an interactive online game that stimulates than watch 6 hours of "celebrity underwater house make over cast your vote now" season 6 with 90% of the rest of the population.

Besides, DaoC costs less than K and dope did in my twenties
