I was just farting about doing a quite unroutine tour of the old driver updates and found that ABIT have released a BIOS that lets owners of KT7A mobo (Rev1.3) use the latest Throroughbred 0.13 micron process CPU!

Athlon XP 2100+ HERE I COME!!!!

You definitely do have version 1.3 of that mobo, don't you? I have the original KT7A-RAID and BIOS updates have let me use this new 1.4GHz processor.

The version number is located on the side of the ISA slot. Unfortunately you have to remove the mobo to check it. :/

You may have checked already, but just thought I'd say. :/

Hmm i always go to update bios, but then i see this:

2.After BIOS updated, pull off the power core and then clear the CMOS data
via jumper before restarting system please.

and a big fat wave of laziness comes over me and i decide to leave it :)

edit:got off my lazy ass and did it :D

K i updated to new 4 in 1's and newest bios for my mobo. Since then my IE is crashing lots and Tribes2 is UEing and shutting down in the same way. Now this isn't all the time, but its quite often and its only happened since i've installed new 4 in 1's and new bios. Anyone any idea what it may be?

WinXP
Abit KG7(4.40 4 in 1's and 8S bios)
512 ddr ram
Athlon T-Bird 1.4
GF2 Titanium(newest Drivers)
SB Audigy(newest drivers)

why-o-why do people update their drivers if they are experiencing no problems with current drivers.

Its just more hassle than its worth.

IMO.:)

Aye Summo I've got rev 1.3. From what I understand in a lot of cases it's the luck of the draw. My mate got the SAME mobo from the SAME place I got mine but his is an earlier revision so he's stuck.

It is a bit of a waste chucking a 2100+ on a board with such relatively slow memory but I'm sure it will provide quite a boost compared to a 1.4 tbird anyway.

It's nice to know that I'll be able to upgrade my set-up bit by bit for a while instead of having to get an entirely new mobo if I want to go any faster.

You've installed via 4 in 1 drivers for a abit kg7 , I could be wrong but doesn't it have a amd chipset not via one .

I'm afraid he's wrong m8.

Chipset
. AMD761/VIA 686B

Thats AMD/VIA

The northbridge is AMD and the Southbridge is VIA. In the mobo manual theres a section that tells you to install the VIA 4 in 1's and the install disc has them on.

Theres 2 sets of drivers for my mobo, AMD AGP miniport drivers and VIA service pack(4 in 1's)

Since it actually tells you in the manual to install these drivers on the mobo i'm pretty confident its ok m8 :)

If u check out Appendix A, B and C of the manual you'll see what i mean
