they are indestructible, cannot be sold, exchanged or salvaged and you cannot get the artifact a second time if you have already done the encounter. And it is futile to try to lodge a complaint of theft about the keep lord…

Thats off GoA's site, if they are indestructable does that mean no dur loss???

I know they lose con, but dur....?

They lose con, they lose dur, they can be destroyed (by shift-D)

Indestructible was a poor choice of word, Id be willing to bet the original French version made more sense :)

Only solution to dur loss is not repairing jewellery artifacts. Theyll drop to 70% con with all abilities (except +skill bonuses) working as normal. Itll probably be fixed sometime but until then theres no reason to repair them.

Armour/weapon artifacts wont last forever but it shouldnt be a problem for most people :)

and the old thread on vnboards that got locked cause of size :m00:

http://vnboards.ign.com/Trials_of_Atlantis:_Quests_and_Artifacts/b22590/61856771/p1

and a comment about durability in that thread : was helping my wife level her Spear of Kings she is a Legendary Weaponcrafter and never let her spear drop below 99 Condition, whenever she hit 99 she would repair it. By the time she got to lev 10 on the spear it was at a 90 Durability.

so yes the "everlasting" artifacts do loose durability :/

Even the simplest of things have a right and wrong way to do them.

Items lose 1% dur for every repair +1 dur for every point of con being repaired. (assuming the item is at 90%+ con - otherwise the dur lost per con point is higher and I cant recall correct numbers) You wont see this for a while. Most items - and all artifacts - start with somewhere over 100% dur (120? 130? 140? Never seen numbers I trust to know for sure) which is displayed as 100.

So repairing an item when it hits 99% con costs 2% dur per 1% con.
Waiting until it hit 97% con would cost 4% dur total: 1.33% dur per 1% con.

Ideally youd repair items as follows:

Jewellery without +skil bonuses: never
Jewellery with +skill bonuses: at 90% con
Caster staffs: at 90% con (benefit of focus staffs reduced below 90% con)
Armour/weapons: depends how much theyll get used and how much the 1% differences matter to you. For most people 97/98% is about right. Repairing sooner is shortening the life of the item.

In this case 'indestructable' just means you cannot shift-D it.

you sure about that? there's quest objects it won't let you shift-d the only way to get rid of them is to drop them on the floor and let them rot.

Why not repair jewellery with +skill bonuses at 70%?

Because the dur lost per con point restored is higher if item is below 90% con. I think ;)

Repair at 90%: 10%con+1con(for repair) ... 11/10 = 1.1
Repair at 70%: 30%con+1con(for repair) 31/30 = 1.033333

Do not repair jewellry at 90% :p Repair at 70%...

Naah, he destroyed the cloak that drops when encounter starts thus bugging the quest. He would even more pathetic to destroy an activated som (after paying for som3) :D
