Firbolg Heros, trained in spears are quite good.

Or Midgard Berserkers, with LeftAxe.

For Midgard the Berserker is probably the hardest hitting melee. Probably best to go Norse/Dwarf as Troll has (a) poor dex/qui, (b) a tendency to get targetted quickly in PvP, and (c) very high starting STR, likely to hit the 300 hard cap with items/buffs.

To spec a zerker keep Left Axe maxxed to level for most of the way (you'll be using LAxe styles), keep your weapon spec close to level (maxxed with items) and throw a few points into parry occasionally. Good final templates are:

50 LAxe / 50 Weapon / 28 Parry
50 LAxe / 44 Weapon / 37 Parry
44 LAxe / 44 Weapon / 44 Parry

In Hib the Celtic Spear Hero (Spearo) is probably the highest damaging melee and in Alb it's probably the Polearmsmen, though I don't really know much about how they spec.

Bear in mind, though, that if you really only want to dish out damage then you need to play a cloth caster :)

Oh if only that were true. If you want to dish out damage play hero (LW/CS spec). Cloth casters deal less damage per nuke than a spearo deals per hit and last about 1/100th of the time in an average battle.

you're not factoring in casting times/attack speed there.. a hero may hit that first hit harder, but it'll be 4+ seconds til he hits again, a caster with good buffs will have casted 2 more nukes before that..

so caster > hero in damage terms

Depends, casters are often barely hitting 300 with resists as they are. Heros can easily top 400 on a lot of targets. Not to mention if the hero gets attacked he doesn't drop dead in 2 seconds. :p

dunno, walker does about 400~ damage every 2(?) seconds with 29% fire resists..

Walker is not what you get if you roll a new fire wizzie up though, he has a lot of RPs and a yellow con buffbot. :p

dmg

I was told and read in several places that a pole highlander armsman does the most melee dmg in the game (cant defend that well tho).
I play a sword n board tho... so I cant really verify this :) All I got is fantastic defence and a tickling stick :p

Pole d00d does most damage per hit in the game.

Spearo is nice too (plus u get moose)

Trouble is these are slow attacks by and large.

Friars hit hard *and* fast but have bad armour and lowish hitpoints.

Any tank with high sheild and parry will live a long time.

The 2 weapon classes get some decent armour and a good damage output.

Even bearing all of this in mind you should really only look for 2 things from any tank:

1) in PvE keep monsters interested in you. Damage output completely irrelavent.

2) in RvR live to see the end of battle by keeping casters alive. Do this with slam if you have or by chopping away at the enemy casters and healers.

Accept the ego battering that the truth is that tanks are not designed to kill people in DaoC just to make it possible for other people to do so and you'll be a very popular and successful in whatever stlye/class you choose :)

anyhow, from personal experience, I'd say berserkers deal most melee damage from their left axe styles if in midgard, champs deal more than hero's for hib and so are best there and alb damage is just gimped in general.

so roll a berserker or a champion for high damage, or else do a pure casting class if you want to do real damage, just don't expect to live long...

Any fighter class can do good damage, depends how you spec them mainly although other things can effect this such as race, weapons and the like.
