Armenia, by Insturzende Neubaten

Most disturbing piece of music I've ever heard tbh, not sick or anything, it just makes me extremely uncomfortable listening to it. Its on the Heat soundtrack if you're interested.

Sorry to be pedantic but I think the band you're referring to is actually called Einsturzende Neubauten. Most of their music is pretty intense if not wholly disturbed although it's good stuff in the main. One of the founder members is Blixa Bargeld who went on to form part of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds which is how I and I guess a lot of other people first came across them.

I think the most atmospheric piece I've heard is Abruptum - Vi sonus veris nigrae malitiae ... its a song around an hour long, where Evil and "It" (the 2 members of the band) cut and mutilated themselves in the studio (so people say) its lots of industrial type sounds, followed by alot of screaming and groaning. Its quite eerie.

Go listen to some Merzbow. Japanese guy who loves his white noise and bondage. I recommend the album Oersted. Probably more disturbing in the 'oh my Christ, that sounds horrible' stakes than the psychological ones though.

'The Holy Bible' by the Manic Street Preachers is pretty intense. At least lyrically. Richard Edwards was in a bad place when he wrote some of those tracks....... 'Closer' by Joy Division has its moments too. Both are excellent albums to boot.

Oh, and 'Blue Flowers' by Dr. Octagon is fantastic too if you want to be mildly creeped out.

Kraut Rock!

Heh, and Merzbow, grandfather of noise probably takes the cake for most disturbing sound. If black metal is your thing I recommend Abyssic Hate for a good clean headache induced solely thru guitarsound and production.

Also, back on topic, The Mars Volta - Deloused in The Comatorium. For example:

"Last night I heard lepors/Flinch like birth defects/It's musk was fecal in origin/As the words dribbled off of its chin"

Maybe not so much as disturbing as totally fucking buggered.

personally the most disturbing music i own is Henryk Mikolaj Górecki's third symphony (Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs)

Very disturbing and beautiful music and the lyrics are incredibly profound.

The second song, for example uses a prayer that was found scratched on a wall in cell no.3 in the basement of the Gestapo's headquarters in Zakopane alongside the signature, "Helena Wanda Blazusiakówna 18 years old, imprisoned since 26 September 1944"
