Has anyone tried this? If so, I would like to know one main thing. I got re-addicted to Disgaea again lately, but I'm getting REALLY pissed off with the way that your characters only gain experience if they take part in a killing attack, and I was wondering if this was any different - or rather, fixed so that your passive clerics that you haven't taught any offensive magic don't wind up never, ever levelling - in the sequel. If it is, I will buy it. Right now.

RSVP ASAP OK.

I have this game. I missed out on 1 and hated myself for it. Its a damned good game tho. As far as only leveling the players in an attack, its not as if there isnt enough missions to do to eventually level them up.

The game is batshit insane and I like it! Level your sword by jumping into it and doing 25 (i think) 'IM FIGHTING IN MY SWORD!¬!!' missions.

Heh, bought this back in January and played it untill about the end of February in the course of 100+ or so hours and beat up UPB. In that time, I found mages to be utterly useless for mad killing.

The levelling method is better than D1's, as I could never be bothered collecting specialists. Much preferred the stacking method for felonies in D2.

Side note: General census is that the Gameplay has been overhauled and improved, but the story isn't quite as entertaining. Especially the two leads, who come across as fairly translucent and can get quite annoying.

So is that a no? Your characters still only gain experience when they make killing blows? :(

Iirc, 'fraid so. The game is worth it, though.

Your clerics gain xp from healing in the early stages of the game. Then theres either team attacks or tower attacks, where you can pair them up with your stronger characters, so they share the xp. Alternatively one of the geo panel effects is reverse damage, so your healers easily can kill stuff and gain xp as well.

Anywho, as Sir Frizz said, the gameplay is more refined and lots of stuff to do, deffo worth buying. Although the main story wasn't all that.

I just don't understand some of the decisions games designers make. :(

I love everything about Disgaea apart from this one thing. What benefit does having only those characters that make killing attacks gain experience provide? Even more bizzarely - if your clerics gain experience from healing in the early stages of D2, why not the later stages too? I just don't get it at all. By playing naturally in D1, by the time Laharl is level 54, my cleric is stuck on 32. And that's after spending some time grinding him with team attacks on one of those levels with invincibility everywhere but one space.

Blah.

I guess I'll probably buy D2, but it's frustrating that it's so close to being completely awesome apart from this one thing.
