Yup, and I didn't notice any difference between DX9 and DX8.1

'Proper' uses of DirectX 9 are yet to be really seen. ATi has some very pretty screensavers and technology demonstrations, and nVidia has the very impressive Dawn demo, but both of these are relatively synthetic (an argument also levelled at 3DMark 2003's DirectX 9 tests).

Sadly, it will be some time yet before the true potential of DirectX 9 will be really shown off in games and other such applications. That said, good things come . . .

Kind Regards

Edit ~ The difference is definitely there :)

I don't have a DX9 card or any DX9 games, so it didn't cause a single noticeable change for me. I gave up benchmarking a long time ago.;)

Sorry Will, I misunderstood you before :) I'm in the same boat, but in fairness DX9 is all about improving the API for hardware specifically designed for it. Hence, we'll only be able to enjoy the amazing new visuals and such if/when we get the hardware capable of maximising its potential. But as you say, in terms of performance, there (sadly) shouldn't be any noticable difference.

Kind Regards

Why thank you. I'd like to stand up for common-sense in computing. ANd I have done ever since a driver change which gave me 400 more 3Dmarks, but also killed my FPS. I decided there and then that benchmarking is stupid, you should go with how it feels.

DX9 isn't an optional install, many new drivers, including the detonator FX and catalyst 3.0's require DX9 and won't function properly without it.

It's not going to give you any direct performance gains, but the drivers which need it, might.

GypsyCurse is right!

You don't have an option if you intent to use new upcoming hardware.

Install it now....

BenchMarking is pointless.... The only time I used to bench mark PCs was when I was sending them to PC Pro Labs for review. I got fed up of seeing SYSMARK and 3DMARK - Give me stability over performance anyday.

If your computer is running with 8.1 without any problems and you don't actually require 9 to play games etc then don't bother.

At least you'll be all set for Vice City, which requires DirectX9 :)

apart from that I have upgraded from 41.09->43.45 nvidia drivers.
btw xav when you install the new drivers, you get a appliaction in your system tray to change graphic settings. I accidently exited it, now I can't get it back, even after a reboot  Any idea how to?

Hi Happy Go Lucky

I'm away from my nVidia-powered computer right now, but as I recall the option is in the display properties (Control Panel > Display). I'll post again later if you've not found it.

Sorry I cannot be of more immediate assistance

Hi Happy Go Lucky

The nVidia QuickTweak utility can be enabled by clicking as follows, starting in the control panel . . .
  1. 'Display' icon
  2. 'Settings' tab
  3. 'Advanced' button
  4. 'Your Graphics Card Name' tab
  5. 'Additional Properties...' button
  6. 'Desktop Utilities' tab
Then simply check the 'Display the QuickTweak icon in the taskbar' box and press OK three or so times.

Kind Regards
