Depends:

A) On the job

When you say "pretty critical", do you mean like someone may die if it doesn't get done, or someone will just lose money or their job ?

Does the fact that this person has failed to complete this daily task have any direct effect on you.?

If not, dont worry about it.

Quake ??? wassat ? when not serving our valued customers I read the corporate manual. Therefore familiarising myself with policy, ethics and practises, thus offering an even better service to our clients.

I do not idle my day away drinking coffe or insulting my colleagues.

Well maybe you should put the corporate manual down and repeat the following mantra from 9am -5.30pm
"Must not forget the tapes....must not forget the tapes"
or 9-5 and nick off early like we do down here!

even easier, to stop him forgetting collect the following
(1) Map of Building
(3) packs of Post-it Notes
(1) jumbo marker

take the post-it notes, stick 2 - 3 together so they are long, and write on them "MUST SWAP BACKUP TAPES" on them, do this until you run out of post-it notes.

take your collection of strung notes and apply them to certain objects (Office Door, his computer screen, coffee machine, toilet door front AND back, toilet seat, urinal, sink, mirror, car windscreen, door, boot, etc) then sit back and watch...

lets see how long it takes for him to forget it then :D

I remember being IT support to a department who managed to screw up data and needed a restore, only to find the asshole on backup duty that week had been putting the same tape in on a three-tape cycle, consequently they lost a lot of work.

Such Fun.
