Hello All...

I have thought about running a Q2 CTF League because there is only one league and thats Savage now from the size of the waiting list its just taking forever the other thing is savage acadmey and again thats also getting pritty full, so I and others think it would be the best option. I would like as much feedback on this as possible to make this league successfully ran, i would like to know things like do we want bfg on or off? ammo damage on or off quad on or off - its your choice also what maps would you like to play? ID ones or LF again its your choice if i get feedback then i think this is gonna take off.

myself (and Hg) would be interested, especially if your league had the following things:

- no bfg
- no lpb limit
- 5vs5
- UK based players only
- id maps 1, 2, 3, 5, lfctf1, rtctf1, others maybe

these rules may seem strange but i think it would benefit and improve the standard of UK CTF players

Yeah what he says.. dunno bout the 5v5 thingy though, definately no lpb limit. Might discourage modemers a bit, but then again there like rockin horse sh*t arent they.

FYI.

SavageUK http://www.savageuk.com has just expanded their Q2CTF league by 1 division.

With 5 clans folding last season there are now 13 places available, thus reducing the Waiting List considerably and also reducing the clans participating in the Academy to between 6-10 clans.

The only thing I can suggest for a new league is to have some sort of voting system in place to decide on the upcoming seasons rules and maps, if only to avoid the constant bitching about rtctf1/bfg etc.

One vote per clan is nice, that way its up to the clan leaders to impose agreement.

Personally I prefer larger teams (7v7, 8v8) as smaller teams tend to encourage individual skills over teamplay.

I agree with Style aboive on this.

As for 8v8 etc, some clans have trouble to get 6 attending, as in savage. don't think that would be a good idea

Yeah true on the 7v7 thing and its a bit hard to arrage it in the tables and stuff so that will have to be voted on a bit more

Im taking notes on this down because i will be making rules soon... ok here is what ive got up to yet

I like the idea of another league - more chance to play, but I really think you should be getting buy-in from people who are willing to host league games on their servers and volunteers willing to do admin/referee roles.

This will be harder than deciding game formats etc.

I'm all for it and I'll even act as an admin, anyone else?

anyway may ask for a DW trial when i get cable modem (not long)

as for the rules if DD was anything to go by don't expect turnouts of more than 2on2:)

Until recently I ran a Q2CTF league called the BWCTFL which was pimped as 'a change of scene from Savage' rather than an alternative to Savage. Well, for various reasons ive closed it down just before season 3 started but if you are interested in taking it over on behalf of BW you can check it out at http://www.barrysworld.com/bwctfl

The webby is fully asp including form updating for league news as well as auto-calculating results from the schedule and statistics pages. You can even create new pages from a web browser.

Contact me if you are interested as I am unlikely to have time to run it again.

Top tip for running a league...

DON'T let the players vote on anything...

you'll get close calls on most aspects of the game (which maps to use, dm flags, BFG, LPB limits, HPB definitions, gamestyle, Quad Drop, etc..) and this will cause more problems than it solves.

If you ARE going to take over the BWCTFL, then I suggest that you keep it in it's orignal format (ie. Off-hand grapple, LMCTF maps, etc).

When you get yerself organised, wack TF on the waiting list for that one, as we were going to sign-up for it before BWCTFL went belly-up.

I disagree about the "UK based players only" option because in France no clan except CTFr and UwF are wont to play Q2CTF. So we cant have a league of our own.
Moreover, there are a lot of foreign Quakers in UK clans as in CK or BBC ...

Mr B I was suggesting letting one vote per clan not per player, submitted by the official clan representative (lets call him/her the "leader"). That way its up to clan leaders to sort out the bitching. I agree close calls will be difficult but at least you can say "this is what most clans want".

I assumed the [MERC] idea solved the large team format 8v8, but DW have decided to dispense with that - pity.
