Detonators

Since a recent reinstall my computer keeps crashing in game. A lot of deleting and replacing leads me to these conclusions :-
1. XP seems not to recognise that a GeForce 4 4400 exists. Whenever I try to load detonator drivers it says something along the lines of this is bad for your pc, do not proceed , XP does not recognise this adaptor :/
2. NV Refresh Fix also causes crashes.
3.I can get the standard winfast drivers on , and it doesnt crash, but they are stuck at 60 fps which is bloody irritating.
Has anyone heard of such a thing or why this may be ?

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but this is beginning to do meh head in now :(

what version of XP are you using? Pro, Home with or without SP1

What is the exact message Windows gives you?

from what you describe it sounds like that windows is trying to scare you saying that the drivers aren't WHQL certified (MS's little Quality standard). You can happily ignore this and continue on with the installation and there shouldn't be any problems

Hi throdgrain

It's fairly late, so forgive me if this makes no sense or doesn't help. Anyway, what you describe in point one sounds like XP warning you that you're trying to install drivers which haven't been Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certified. If this is the case (the alert box has a yellow exclamation mark symbol and quite a lot of text) just ignore it and continue with the installation. I know this sounds dodgy, but sometimes very stable drivers are released which simply haven't been sent to be WHQL-certified prior to being issued. Alternatively, head on over to the nVidia site and download the Detonator XP v44.03 reference drivers, which have been certified.

With regards you're second point, if you're having trouble with your drivers or graphics card, then utilities associated with it may well fail too.

Finally, with regards point three, if the nVidia reference drivers listed above don't resolve your problems, try going to your graphics card manufacturer's website and downloading their latest drivers for your card, as those should, above all other drivers, work with your card.

Before you begin, you may want to uninstall your current drivers, perhaps using a utility like the Nasty File Remover to get rid of any miscellaneous or fragmented driver files which aren't removed via the normal uninstall process (and which can hence cause trouble when trying to install new drivers).

Kind Regards

60 fps is soo jerky and unpleasant Nath. My pc will run CS at 85, or 100 fps all day long, so why not have it ? :)

Like I said, you youngun's today.

I remember running Wing Command III on my 486 dx 33 at about 15 fps and being god damned happy about it too.

A few more details plz...

Does the card crash when you install the drivers, crash while loading a game, or crash while playing a game (and roughly how long are you playing before it crashes)?
