imo...

As I mentioned in the 'David Lame' thread that Derren Brown is better than David Blaine I find out Mr Brown is actually gonna do a new event also \o/

While Blaine is like WoWz0rY(c) sitting in a box doing nothing, Brown has decided to play Russian Roulette with live ammo and a six shooter on October 5th :D it's all mind control and psychology stuff which is the kind of magic I much prefer.
I think it's more interesting anyway :p

edit: Think it's shown on the 26th tho, checking his website.

2nd edit: aha! think October 5th is when a member of the public will be picked to load the gun and witness it, then it's broadcast live on the 26th.

(prolly need the 3 weeks between to train the person how to help with the mirrors and fake bullets up sleeves) ;)

If Derren Brown's stunt is being done in the UK, then it is clearly fake. There are no lawfully held, functioning handguns in this country that do not belong to the police or the armed forces.

Maybe you should watch some of his other stuff before commenting?

You think I should watch his other stuff because it might change the governments position on the use of handguns in this country?

If the stunt is being done overseas, fair enough, but if it's being done in this country then it is fake.

Is this guy a magician like Houdini

Or

A publicity seeking moron like Blaine?

Either way:

magician

n 1: someone who performs magic tricks to amuse an audience

AND WE ARE NOT AMUSED

I know of a man who lives on the same road as my mum. Retired ex-Police firearms expert. Has several guns in his house, license for each one.

Also Derren Brown would not need a gun license, only to be in the presence of a licensed firearms person. As long as they monitored the situation it would be no problem. Also it could just go to some offshore location to do it.

Anyway whatever, I'm sure you won't be watching it, and it's pretty obvious no-one will get their heads blown off but his tricks are a damn sight more interesting than Blaine.

Well Derren Brown admits half the stuff he does isn't magic at all. In the same way David Blaine has got bored of doing magic and now does things to test the human body and mind to it's limits, Derren Brown only does 'magic' for a bit of fun and pretty much solely concentrates on psychology, and some of his 'tricks' are very good indeed.

You don't have to like it but I find somebody who can convince people to do what he wants without them realising a tad more interesting than a man who sits in a box for six weeks. Although I still do find Blaines exploits impressive.

The government imposed a total ban on handguns, licensed or otherwise.

If the man in your mums road owns handguns, then he is breaking the law. This was done after Dunblane in a typical Labour Government kneejerk reaction.

How is this so hard for you to understand Omniscieous?

It is a trick, he is not firing a real working gun with a real bullet at his head.

There is no way that the government would give a guy on television special dispensation to use one of the polices, or militarys pistols.

As such, armed with that knowledge, it is hard to get excited over a showmans trick.

Please try and understand my point because I'm getting tired of trying to put it in words you can understand.

Stop being so fucking patronising, you state one fact, I state another, I really couldn't give a monkeys about any legal speil you feel like spouting today. Go tell it to some lesser being if you want to impress anyone.

It's pretty obvious that in any given situation he's not going to end up blowing his head off now is it?
For all I care he could do it with a nailgun, with a customised bb gun (which isn't hard to do) or with any kind of projectile, he's not going to kill himself.

His tricks are purely psychological so how he's going to work Russian roulette into one I don't know.

As I said, go and watch some of his past works, I don't care if it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, it's fake, or however many more times you feel like telling me. It's entertainment, he's damn good and damn clever along with it. I already know he's not going to die but I'd still rather see what he's going to do with the idea.

One last point I do believe I pointed out it wouldn't be hard just to go offshore and perform it there, I notice you didn't point this fact out in any of your legal whiney it's fake patronising yadayada posts. Twenty minutes to an oil-rig, film it, twenty minutes back, job done.

This might be illegal also but please don't bother telling me, I'm really not that interested.

As for this..

I know some very long words, and many that I'm sure you don't know so please don't try and make me look stupid, it only backfires in these occasions.

I think I'd find it really difficult to find a lesser being than you.

Ok....Derren claims his tricks aren't sleight of hand, but about reading peoples reactions. Most people will watch just to see someone blow their brains out on live TV. Gumbo says that the gun can't be real because then it would be illegal. Therefore it is fake.

I love internet arguements...people always end up talking across each other.

Ad you really are a full-on Tory sometimes, John.:p Knee-jerk indeed. Tories would have done the same.

Yeah, but it's better than having some twat thinking the best way to win an argument is to talk loudest and say the most.

I pleased they banned all guns. It would be like living in SA all over again otherwise.

Well apart from not having the lovely sunny weather obviously.

Oh and the corrupt government....and a few other things

Blimey I don't think I've used the quote tags as much in the last couple of years as as I have today

I think we've had the banning hand guns discussion before, so I'm not going to get involved in that one again. Yet.

I didn't recognise an argument there sorry  I said watch a TV show, he told me British gun laws. I'm not an expert on British gun laws therefore how can I argue? As a result I didn't argue. For this I am clearly stupid and I apologise.

The show will be fake and therefore not very entertaining.

Yep? I know what an argument is. There was no argument.

Brief minutes of thread.

  • Me: Watch Derren Brown Russian roulette programme.
Gumbo: Guns illegal, show fake, will be crap.
Me: Well I know of an ex firearms and ballistics expert who holds licenses for weapons. And I still think the show will be entertaining.
Gumbo describes gun laws to me.
    I get overly defensive.
Me: Well ok I didn't really need to know all that, I just wanted to say I thought this might be an entertaining programme, compared to Blaine in a box which although impressive I think is a bit boring to watch.
    Gumbo points out I'm stupid.
    Others point out similar facts.
Mank! makes signature from my post.
Mank! tells me I had an argument.

I still fail to see any argument but I'll just go along with you for now.
