Dentist!!

Some of you may or may not know that I am petrified of the dentist. About a year ago I had a filling fall out of my tooth(bottom row second from the back). Well of course I've left it and now its hurting all day. I had been a dentist but I had lost the phone number so I went in today before work to ask them about rejoining their club. While there I asked if they do sedation as I kinda guessed it needs to come out, well they don't:(

I am booked in to have it taken out in 2 weeks time, and I was wondering if some of you could tell me that it isn't going to hurt and that all will be ok!! Have any of you had the same tooth out that I have got to have removed?

PLEASE HELP MEH!!1111!!

:(

Well, I've had two pre-molars removed under a local, and it wasn't too sore. I won't pretend it doesn't hurt, but it is over pretty quickly, and it isn't that bad.

In fact, the 4 injections into my gums were as sore as the actual extractions.

I too have a fear of Dentist', and i havent been to one since somethin like July 2000...

Main reason was because the fucking Dentist was a butcher, and plus the Cocaine stuff he injected into my Gums didnt work..

First Injection: Mouth felt numb, went in, and got the drill and i felt immediate pain..

Second Injection: Everything went dead again, but when he was using the Spray thing on my Tooth it went straight thru me and hurt

Third Injection: Same as above

Fourth Injection: Finally my mouth stayed numb enough for him to do what he had to do.

"Come back <date> Mr. Gray"
<Slobber>"Cheah, like fluck"</Slobber>

He fucking scared the shits outta me.. not been to one since!

Thats so fucking true SG, why don't they make the appointment BEFORE you have the work done, that way you aren't slobbering like a twat in front of a waiting room full of people.

Sooooooooo you are saying it hurts Will?

Yeah, it hurts, but its "punch in the face sore", not "thrown down a flight of stairs and then beaten" sore.;)

I can take a punch in the face tbh....I think........I mean does it hurt as they are doing it or is it after when the novacaine wears off that it hurts? Because that I don't care about, its in the chair that I'm worried about.

Its the in the chair that hurts. But remember I had it done when I was 15, and my pain tolerance was a lot lower then. You should be fine.

Its not as sudden as a punch in the face. If the dentist can get it out cleanly, its pretty fine. Just make sure when he pulls, he doesn't take you with it, hold yourself down. Once it is out, it isn't as bad.

I'm not sure if its exactly the same for a molar, since you are talking about a bigger tooth.

I am literally almost very nearly in tears I'm that scared, I've had root canal done and I made it through that, apparently thats the worst job you can have done at the dentist. I am close to doing this myself I'm that scared of someone messing in my head:(

This is nothing compared to root canal work, its not even close. Root canal is supposed to be agony, this is just a short sharp pain that fades pretty fast.

You could always scare the people in the waiting room by screaming everytime the drill/needle comes near you..

When you leave the room you'll notice everyone is white in the face like they have just seen a ghost :D

I don't drink scoobs:(

I was considering having a huge spliff before I go in, but my mate who has the same fear said he tried that once and it made it much worse, kinda got paranoid and stuff. Thinking of going the doctors for a "pill".

You fuckbag, you should be working not typing your innermost thoughts on here.

Anyway re the dentist. It will hurt. Lots. More than anything you've ever felt before (yes, even more than when I touched you in your "special place") You will cry like a baby.

80% of injections don t even work :)

the only way to help yourself is to gently cup the dentists balls in yr mighty fist and say "If you hurt me....."

:)

I have some betablockers left over for when I had an inner ear infection. Calm as a cosmic cow. Shame coming off them is a total bitch.;)

I would just go in straight, and have a smoke afterwards.

Get some proper mellow outdoors stuff and get stoned on that, you shouldn't get paranoid.

I've had an extraction - didnt really hurt tbh.

But I had 4 injections - so it was all numb. And i couldnt eat. Or spit straight. Or close my mouth.

Then the injections wore off :/

Oh - what's a root canal for?

This helping to calm my nerves Lee, you want me calm don't you?

Root canal is where they brace open your mouth with a painful metal scaffold type thing, they then dig away at your tooth to get a big enough gap in it, they then kind of screw a thingy down into your roots and drag the thingy out so that it rips the nerve out. I had to have it done because I lost a filling and they couldn't fill it because the filling would of touched the nerve, so they had to do root canal.

I had all four wisdom teeth out, in two successive sessions, when I was in my early twenties, had them done in hospital but under local anesthetic.

On the first session, the dentist, a Mr Szell*, noticed the minor gap in my somewhat calm outward appearance, something to do with my fingers gripping his lovely big chair, think of the end of that scene in Planes, Trains and Automobiles when they are driving on the wrong side of the road, you get the idea.

He'd already administered the anesthetic and was waiting for it to take effect.

"Nervous ?" he asks ?

He proceeds to show me a nasty spanish inquisition artifact, a short L-shaped tool with a dangerously looking pointy end, he lightly taps this aforementioned pointy end into my gum on the non-anethestized side, I smart suddenly.

"Feel that ?" he says, I nod.

He then takes the pointy end and rams it home into the other numb side, leaving the precision instrument half inside the gum.

"Feel that ?" he asks again, I don't feel a thing.

A mighty strange way to gain my confidence, he then proceeds to rip out my back teeth, I still remember the grinding sound, however, I didn't actually feel a thing throughout, despite having the one of Torquemanda's descendants in charge.

Just make sure the stuff works thats all, you'll be fine.

And take painkillers _immediately_ afterwards, before it all wears off, not wait until you get home, like I did :)

* not really, this is a feeble attempt at a joke.

Yes the sound of the grating and drilling going on in your 'inner ear' is extremely irratating :(

Some of my tooth broke off, and went down my throat, so im here fucking gargling trying to bring up this tooth, then they stick that Vacuum down my throat choking me more!!!!

Altho.. i must admit it was all worthit, because when the female dentist person was goin upstairs i caught a glipse of her "underside" :D

Don't forget the "lips still frozen unable to smoke a ciggie" spell for a couple of hours post trauma. I certainly looked like a cunt trying to have a smoke holding my lips together

Oh yeah... the grinding...

I'm still unsure whether its a sound or a feeling. Either way its like someone's trying to extract your skull. :(

Know you won't wanna hear this Trem, but I had exactly the same tooth out four years ago, because of an abcess.

He firstly filled me gob with injections - then pushed down really hard on the tooth with a set of pliers. Then he pulled, wiggled, pulled, wiggled and the fecker came out. What I didn't realise at the time was that part of the jaw-bone came out with the tooth - the bit around the base of the tooth. The blood part wasn't nice either - must of swallowed about half a pint - felt rough as fuck for about two days. The other weird part is that the fragments of bone and tooth work themselves out over a period of a month or so too. Not a pleasent experience. But hey-ho, yours will probaly come out dead-easy like.
