Defragmentation Problems

I have a 15gig slave drive which I use to store downloads, usually mp3s and divx files.

The drive is 95% fragmented and everytime I run XPs disk defragmentor or Nortons equivalent it takes 10 hours to sort out 4% of it! I usually just give up as Im not convinced of the safety of leaving Athlons running 24/7 on full load.

Does anyone have any idea whats taking it so long to defrag? My guess its because of the size of the divx files

Id appreciate any feedback

Whats your OS?

I had this ytpe of problem when i was on Win98, it would only get to about 5% then it would restart... from what i seen on that [.tv] Channel before it died (Chips? wa sthe name i think) someone posted this question and they said that if you close all your programs in Task Manager , that is *supposed* to cure it

NTFS? Cos ive seen NTFS be a total BITCH for trying to defrag. It almost requires 40-50% of the drive to be free in order to actually work.
