Default Media Player

Nghhh.

I've got one of those wireless logitech keyboards with the media buttons. One of my mates spilt coke on it a couple of years ago and since then it's randomly interpreted some keypresses as me pressing play. It's a bit annoying but not the end of the world. The problem is that play/pause loads my default media player so every now and again WMP will just pop up. Again, annoying but not the end of the world. When I'm running a full screen game it does become a problem. Not only does it flick out of the game and load wmp but for some games (U2 being one of them) it crashes.

On my last install of XP, somehow I got the play button to do nothing. (Unless a media player was loaded in which case it acted as normal). I don't know how, so I contacted Logitech in the hope that they'd have some vague clue as to what the hell they were doing. I was mistaken of course. All they told me was:

Sorry but the keyboard is designed to work in this way, even with no iTouch
installed pressing the play button will load your default media player, it
is actually controlled by Windows.

He was completely wrong too, with no itouch software installed the play button does NOT load anything. Yet another tech support goon working from the FAQ page of their site.

Anyway, anyone got any idea how I can stop it loading media player without having to uninstall the iTouch software? (It's handy)

Ta :D

No help whatsoever but i thought id share the fact that i have 3 of those Logitech Explorer keyboards under my desk all victims of alcohol and Coca Cola abuse.

#1: Is totally fucked

#2: Is maybe repairable

#3: Is certainly repeairable, only one coke spillage but seeing as the #1 keyboard is totally fucked after 3 incidents where ive cleaned it and took ALL of the buttons of and washed them etc etc its starting to get painful.

FYI the media button player does indeed load up the default media player, WMP9 here atm, and also the button for email does load up Outlook by default

My only suggestion is to open the keyboard up, wash the three rubber sheets as if you have only fucked it up once it is repairable, also if u have a digicam (or like me have 2 other exact same keybaords) take a picture of where the keys go as this will save u a lot of hassle. Just do it asap before the connections go all manky and rusty from coke, remember the pound coin in glass of coke thing, rots like a bastard.

Done it twice before, Doom. Both times I had a massive hassle putting it back together. keys and the rubber pads were a pain to align.

Anyway, I guess I'll just keep fidling.

The pads are easy just wash them as you take them out and remember where they go (my first mistake)

I also benefit from 2 other keyboards as reference so good luck :)

Like I said I've taken this keyboard apart twice already. The rubber pads fell about everywhere and were an utter pain to put back together. I'll not be trying that again. I'll just keep looking for another way to stop play loading media player.

can you not disable the media buttons completely?

Also, you might want to check if you have assigned a shortcut to the WMP player - and remove that as well.

Or even just pull the flat cable out from underneath it? that entire blue box is connected via a thin bit of sheet cable, if u really dont need it have you tried to pull it out?

If you dont mind the lack of the other buttons that is
