I have an urge to buy a console... PS2 @ around £200 quid... tempting, but then would have to pay loads more for another controller, memory card, games etc etc... X-Box - too expensive... GameCube - may be worth waiting for... any suggestions anyone ??

Gamecube - it's worth waiting for. Not long to wait, and it's cheap and considerably better than anything else. I wouldn't even think about the XBox unless I were some kind of mongloid retard (shut up ). And the PS2 is getting better, but is still only a shadow of what it should be - a console with great innovative games. Instead it's still currently an ugly shitbox that takes pleasure in failing to play DVDs properly and boring you with generic bullshit games.

Buy a PS2, buy GTA3 and play that for ages whilst saving for another controller, memory card etc.

GTA3 kicks serious arse and has hours of gameplay, even if you get bored you can see how long you can be on the run from the rozzers for

Does anyone know what the PS2 price is likely to do over the next couple of weeks / months ?? I would have thought another drop is in order to try to counter the X-Box / GameCube release coming up...

Not for the XBox release I'd guess. XBox is already gonna cost more.

Maybe for the 'Cube (in May ?) but since most shops are probably gonna sell at £170 rather than Nintendo's recommended £150 I wouldn't expect much.

Dont buy a PS2, its full of sequels which are in most cases worse than the ones that came before.....

GTA3 is over hyped, its not that good, it has to few cars, the whole 3d shooting stuff feels crap, give me the feeling of first playing GTA or GTA2 anyday...

GT3 looks nice but it plays slow, compared to gt1 the sense of speed is appalling, its like 80kmh in gt1, but in gt3 its 250kmh, just cant get used to it, it looks very nice though

Right so thats the PS2 out the way...

Xbox, games look nice, DoA3 probably will be good, Burnout is good, but you can have that on the DC for less...

Basically Xbox is pretty crap imo, we will see how it does and wether it produces better games...


GameCube, looks to be a winner of the 3, has Segas backing so thats innovative games, plus it has miyamoto which also equals some boundary pushing games...

Its cheap, the controller is the best of the lot, plus it has SMB!, which is like the best game ever:/


If you choose none of the above then I would have to say DC, and even if you choose a GC, the DC would be a great partner to it. DC has a great amount of quality games, even more if you get a chip to play jap games

If it were me I'd get a GC, or a DC, or both....

but imo the PS2 is well worth purchasing for GTA3 alone - an amazing game. Sense of freedom, good missions and good graphics (note i don't say excellent).

And the radio stations are great!

Flashback FM is good, Chatterbox is funneh and u can't beat doing driveby shootings with some opera music on

and yes some of the sequels might be worse than the originals but.. u cant say there arent any good original games...

Don't want to be rude, but none of the games in this list are what I would regard as classics or brilliant.

Half-Life is kinda old hat; Rez is very average and Headhunter is OK.

gt3 only looks better, it doesnt play better, it has some nifty new things that should of been in the original, but it runs slow as fuck compared to the first and i dont really like it :/ its good but not worth buying the console for

gta3 is much the same, just a looks improvement, the sense of freedom barely exists as the city map is tiny, even smaller than gta1 or gta2 maps and those sometimes felt restrictive...
gta3 doesnt feel right compared to the other 2, it doesnt play as well...

thps3 isnt really gonna better thps2 on the pc, because that basically fulfilled the genre, thps3 is kind of a cash in, it doesnt have much innovation, its just thps2 with new tracks new videos and some other bollocks, again it doesnt warrant the purchase of a ps2....


so there we have it.. the big three 3's and they arent exactly staggering...

DC has many more better games on offer, and they are actually original and much more fun
GC will be the same..

may as well get them on the pc and play them on a better machine with better control options, instead of buy a ps2 and try to play oni or project eden on a ps controller....

saying that each to their own - my opinions of gta3 come from playing numbers1 & 2 sooo much and found that in the end it was just too restrictive (perspective wise in 1&2)

Have a mate that first started gaming on pc's and tends to slate how console games are generally shite compared to pc games. even tho he don't own any consoles! own em all is the best idea!

I assume (on prior knowledge of who's developing consoles) that you refer to the X-Box and GameCube respectively.

Do your friends drive Novas, or wear Kappa, teamed with a lovely shade of snot green Reeboks; or both perhaps? I don't know, but evidently they've commented on each console and you now stand by it as 'troo' for fear of them.

Consoles (as a whole) are no longer considered geeky (thanks fall heavily in the hands of Sony) - unless you're living in a hugely rural district, where you still hunt and forage for food; even then, I doubt the geek factor.
People who call (any) consoles 'for little kids' are either far too concerned with their pride than to be seen playing a colourful game, or they're of the same kin of the rural kappa scavengers.
