Decent PC, major slowdown.

Friend of mine has a 2000mhz AMD computer, with Ti4200 geforce, 768mb RAM, 80gig H/D..

Takes ageeesessssss to load up and I mean aggeessssss when porting, sometimes about 3 mins. Why? It's running windows 2000 and everything else is fast - bootup is great etc. Latest Nvidia drivers too.

The FPS rate gets so bad once u run out of apk u have to wait 10 secs for the jerkiness to subside, losing stick etc in groups.

2mb ADSL btw

Would XP solve problem?

2k has some issues, actually lots. But i'd double check that your gfx card is set in agressive settings. Also you have a decent page file size set. Oh and what speeds that ram, if its 2100 then its not going to be fast get some 2700 or 3200 instead.

Win XP

Try blackviper.com. The "Gaming" setup made a major difference to the XP laptop I run SI on.

P.S The guy looks like a twat but it works nonetheless.

actually when I switched from win2k to winxp pro the whole game was boosted a lot, i zone twice as fast now and the game itself runs so much smoother, my guess is some are lucky some are not, in my opinion win2k was the best OS I ever used but I don't think it is meant for gaming machines

guess win2k fucksup darkage.. was running smoothly with win2k untill yesterday when i format c:
reinstalled win2k and.... i now have the 2-3mins zone time as mentioned above, and INSANE lag in the first few minuts when lots of people around.

oh.. and i have an amd xp 2000mhz 512 ddr ram Geforce 4 TI 4800
and im running a 32mbit/34mbit connection........

gonna get winXP one of the next few days and try it out.. hope it'll increase game preformance..

I have the same. the only common denominators i see are XP chips and soemtimes win2k.

My spec is

xp2000+
512 DDR ram
GeForce 4 ti4200
ISDN

and by the way. whoever told u to upgrade from 2100 to 2700 ... is wrong im afraid. 2100 should cope fine.
2700 is only 5% faster than 2100

I got sick of the fluffiness of Winxp and went back to Win2k pro.
I prefer it and things seem to run faster for me.

DAOC runs fine.
