Decals in CS

I having trouble getting decals (bullet holes etc) to work in D3D. I have a Matrox G400 with the latest drivers. Switching to Open GL solves the problem but CS runs like a dog. The strange thing is that decals work in the single player HL.

Do I need a simple console command like "decals 1" (no seriously) or is it a hardware issue?

I have never managed to get the decals working in D3D, not even in HL. But then again, I get better performance out of OpenGL than I do D3d.

Which GFX card have you got?

So YOU'RE that mythical bloke who went out and bought a Matrox G400. Like West Ham supporters, I thought you were an Urban Legend.

Sweet card, serious mate. This is the first prob ive had with it *coughs*

Forget West Ham, Bristol City are the team for me.

So er decal commands anyone?

no, seriously, is the G400 a gfx card? I thought it was a rather expensive doorstop. Get a proper card mate :)

(anything that begins with NVIDIA is a good start)

The console command is "mp_decals 300" (300 is default value). Should sort it m8.

G400 rulz Perplex. Looks better than my mates nvidia, the colour on that card (not sure exact spec, 32Mb ships with most package deal computers)looks all washed out in games like UT and CS.

Doesn't that console command just set the number of decals that are displayed? I have 300 as the default value for this, but the prob is no decals in the first place. Is there a command that turns decals on/off or varies the way in which they are displayed?

No decal related options I know of apart from that one sorry.

You say the decals work in half life so have you tried replacing your cs config with your hl one?

Setting your gl_polyoffset to some value between -10 and 10 will normally fix it (-0.001 works for me) might fix it.
I think this is actually in the HL readme but nobody ever reads that anymore.
Also check your r_decals and mp_decals are non-zero
