Ebay has spare xbox hds usually, hell even i have two lying around but im sure i formatted them to evox standard.

Seriously tho, seeing as you have destroyed it, get yourself a HD that you can afford with and get a nonsolder mod (if people say its unreliable tell them about my solder mod thats actually not soldered, gravity is holding the wires in place in one of my xbox's) and do it yourself, your xbox wont work till it has one in it (hd that is) and it will take exactly as long to deliver. GET ON WITH IT! :)

www.baldbouncer.co.uk is the place to go and if you ask nicely i dare say this guy might have a few original hds lying around.

Once you get it chipped, use SaveGame manager to restore your pgr2 and bo3 saves and its piss easy.

I dont think thats possible. You can certainly format a retail hd on your pc to be read by a pc but vice versa i think not. And even it was possible, you would need an HD that 'locks' if you intend to use the live service.

Try www.xbox-scene.com and check the tutorial section. I am going bed :)

You can lock an xbox harddrive on another xbox - if you know someone with a chipped xbox you should be able to format your drive and install the original files (assuming they have them) with the drive in their xbox and then lock it, then put the new HDD into your xbox.

Note that having a large HDD in your xbox may cause live to stop working so you ideally want a 10GB drive.

what exactly is this 'lock' thing you speak of?

Locking is a security feature on IDE hard drives (it's part of the ATA spec not xbox specific). It allows you to lock access to a hard drive using the on-board controller hardware - basically unless you enter a password you can't use the drive.

The idea is that if you remove the xbox hard disk you can't then read it in a PC because it's locked, unless you know the password.

Well if you are going the modchip route, could be worth upgrading to a bigger hard disk while you are at it ;)

No matter what size your hard drive, a disk called Slayers 2.6 will setup the hard drive and also has an option to setup your hard disk as a standard xbox factory default. Of course you do lose your game saves and even if you could access the broken hard drive, its fiddly as some games like Burnout 3 use signed saves that only work on the xbox they were created with. This can be got around though ;)
