DC Q3 players are so funny

After finally hunting down the q3 DC maps, and installing the 1.16 patch, iv'e seen the future and it's funny. On joining the server, there i was faced with a 400 ping and 7 other master blasters, nobody had a better ping so it wasn't so bad next up, i can't imagine this being the norm, but they were running what seemed like Stupid quake, the one with the machine gun rail, quads mega healths everywhere. After quickly jumping out to a 100 frag lead, about 3 mins, just about everybody was having a go at me, for i quote 'Some how you have hacked the game so you can win' Realy well christ you can hardly miss, with 10 rails a second coming out, even on a 400 ping. I can't wait for this whole DC,PC thing to go mainstream, much was said on the server i was just on. I was more pissing myself laughing than playing

I don't think you can meet DC players as mentioned above, you have to download a patch with a smaller map pack because the wickle DC can't handle the bigguns and I think they are designed to be more Joypad freindly ie.boring, flat, no jump pads etc.

I love the way Console users are so ignorant. I bought a bunch of console only peeps home oneday from school who think a PC is only for word processing. When i loaded up UT they nearly pissed themselves when i put my hand on the mouse. The smile was soon wiped off their face when they saw how much faster the pace is on a mouse.

I am not dissing the joypad. I have one myself. They belong to certain genres, imagine playing a beetem up with a mouse, lol. I only play FPS games though (with a dash of rts) and the joypad doesn't fit in with 1st person shooters.
It is just so innacurate and laughably slow. I saw someine playing Perfect dark for the N64 and i had to restrain myself to stop myself collapsing in a heap of laughter on the floor. They were playing split screen and they saw each other and it took about 3 seconds b4 the first shot was fired. It went something like this

see enimy
stop moveing and engage freelook point around untill over other player press fire. You don't get straff jumping and long frantic battles on the move like you do with KB&M combo.

The gameplay is so unbelievebly slow you could quite happily go to sleep when playing.

I have to tell my console-only friends that they should get a keyboard and mouse if they wanna play Q3 and UT. They never believe me until they've seen my play like u say. Most amusing

And, yeh, where can u d/l the DC levels from ? Some of em seem quite a bit better than the shitey ID ones

Well I tried it and at first just played like I normally play. Scored 124 to 18,15 & -1
hmmm, about as challenging as playing bots on 'bring it on'
Credit to them tho, they didn't moan...but then again they didn't type much anyway. Must be a pain in the ass moving a cursor around letters of the alphabet to type anything.

Next game I tried to play on their level, no straf jumping, no rocket jumping,ignoring quad and looking straight ahead. Still won by over 50 frags.

Next game I spectated and just watched em play, and to be honest a lot of em move around the map a lot better than I could using a controller (I tried q2 on N64..impossible).
They do however mostly stand still when shooting and only 1 of em moved the cursor around instead of shooting straight ahead.They can move well and aim quite well but they can't do both at the same time.Must be difficult to set up that controller to give you the same movement/aim and wep selection that we have.

Conclusion, it was fun for a couple of maps but tbh I don't wanna spoil their fun.I respect em for sticking it out but at the end of the day I think we should leave em to get on with it and play amongst themselves. Even a piss poor PC player would kick ass against em never mind any hardcore players.

I had a 320 ping to their 300-450 ish but at 140fps to their 30 and the freedom of movement with mouse/kb its a david v goliath scenario and goliath has a railgun!

Best left alone imo.

DC Console users

I reckon that if you wanna play against these DC players then you should get a console and go for it.
If you wanna play against sitting ducks go to the fair.
The ducks dont mind being taken the piss out of but if I was a DC owner having a bit of fun, I sure would be pissed with KB/mouse users messin my game and taking the piss while doing it).

Well maybe not, i find this whole thing a joke m8, i only got the dam maps to find out what it was all about and try it out. Like i say i only played it once against the dreamers, i had no intention of playing q3 for more than an hour at a time, i h8 the bleeding game
It was the dreamcast folk that started on me, i just had my 5 min thrill and pissed off. The only reason i can think of this delay in releasing the dc/pc crossover, is because sega/id or whoever didn't want the dreamcast owners to be put off playing when they played online. Well christ, if you think i or anyone else for that matter, didn't get a good kicking for the first couple of weeks when playing online against far better players, then your realy mistaken. Maybe it's it's got something to do with the hostility of the average console player, if you ever read PC gamer then im sure you know what i mean. The boy 74 or whoever he might be, says it all. He seemed to class any pc player that played these dc maps as hackers, no just normal gammers me thinks. Who didn't try there best to grab the IHV a couple of years ago, download the first test as soon as they booted up there pc, download the first demo before they did anything else that night, the same goes for the dc maps

DC Game Servers

Dont they have dedicated/ protected servers in DC land?
We can password protect, can't they do that with maybe
a Game Serial number check as well.
That would mean only those who bought the DC
version could get into the server.
Possible or not....I dunno...you tell me....someone..

out of interest i downloaded the files and gave it a whirl ......

heres what i saw -

1) they cant move and shoot
2) they dont/cant look up down
3) they cant straff jump (i had 3 ppl on a cd ctf map trying to straff jump - a pretty funny sight)
4) the servers are VERY lagy, iam on isdn and the lowest ping i have seen is 130 !
5) there are a couple of decent players out there !
this supriseded me, but i have seen a couple of ppl who would NOT get the crap kicked out off them on a pc server), like i said only seen a couple of good peeps, but its still a suprise.
6) i only got called a bot once, which is better than on pc maps
7) WTF ! they have fucked up the maps - there is a QUAD on dm3 ffs !
8) They can rocket jump !, i spected tham and was damm impressed, it must be pretty tricky to pull of with a gamepad.

personally i might have the odd game when i want a bit of "no brain" fun, if you stick to the mg its ok

also like 8Ball siad, i think id do alot worse than them if they made me use a gamepad

Q3 for dc suports dc mouse and dc k/b, and most ppl on there use it (some ppl r ignorate and think controller better lol). also u can buy a converter off the net and use pc a mouse.

maps are like simplified versions of the pc ones ..... with damm silly names, dm17 is the bouncy one

Aye I bought it on the DC to play with friends, and it's good 4 player but nothing else really. All the maps are simplified and the power ups are scattered around stupidly and it's all rather badly arranged. Still looks damn good for the DC.

Don't be too Harsh

Don't be too harsh on the DC players, after all, not everyone can afford to have a PC capable of running a system hungry games like Quake 3. At least the Dreamcast is the first console to give the Console owning community the chance to play a previously PC dominent game genre.

And everyone here seems to assume that all of the DC players are using a gamepad, but don't forget that alot of poeple have the Dreamcast mouse and Keyboard, making the game as easy to play as on a PC.

Ok, the servers may not be bad, but there is a major advantage of playing on a DC (at least there was until PC players hacked in), and that is that everyone has the same setup, and everyone has roughly the same ping, as all DC's have a 33.6k modem.

So, all i'm asking is that you don't diss the the Dreamcast Quake 3 players too much, and you give them the respect they diserve, for at least trying to compete against the well praticed and dominenet PC gamers.
