Dark q3 models

Hi,
I'm using a GF2 GTS 64mb to play Q3 with and the models are very dark in comparison to the maps, virtually black. This makes things a little difficult during team games!
I've messed around with the graphics settings inside Q3 and installed the latest drivers, Hercules and Det, but still no luck.
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and has found a solution, or could point me in the direction of a good faq?

BTW, I am using win98 and I should stress that its not the whole game that is dark, only the models/entities (esp in RA3). I've read through the faqs on the other thread but still no success.
