who's been playing the demo?

I just gave it a quick run through and tbh it looks the mutt's nutts imo. It's built on the Source engine and they (claim to have) tweaked it a bit. Given I ran it on 6xAA and 16xAF and HDR on, but very pretty indeed.

Bit like TES:Oblivion on steroids.

Tried it aswell, wasn't too impressed. It was OK though. And also it's story driven and not sandbox like Oblivion is.

that's what I'm pleased with tbh. Oblivion's "do whatever you want and come back to the main quest if you like" sanboxing is well and good, but not for me I guess. I want more of an idea as to where I am and what I'm supposed to be doing than the free-range that you get.

Still, I'm a sucker for these kinds of games, so I'll prolly be getting it heh ;)

i got the impression the single player bit wasn't too important. I'm sure it will be ok but i got the impression it was a multiplayer game really

well, from watching the videos on the dark messiah site it seems that it's quite a singleplayer story with some kind of MP free-for-all PVP tacked on?

more info on the MP modes here: http://www.fragdolls.com/uk/blog.php?doll=jam&p=552

it seems you could have up to 64 players on a map at once, so it's by no means MM. bit more along the lines of COD2 and BF2 MP.

Also the SP story is fully developed, with up to 4 possible endings it seems.

*anticipate*

they're quite careful to explain that it's an FPS with some RPG flavouring. I'm thinking that it will be a bit like Dungeon Siege as compared to say, Neverwinter Nights, if you know what I mean.

I downloaded the demo on steam and it ran like shite. :(

Even on lowest res and lowest everything it ran like a dog.

So I did a test and loaded up HL2. 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF, HDR etc Max everything and got a steady 40fps or so.

Why does this game run so poorly on the same engine when there's not a whole lot more going on? Well apprently it because the demo is entirely seperate and uses an older version of the steam engine where some random bug was left in. Hopefully the performance will be sorted out before it comes out because for a 2.5gig download just for a 5 min demo, it sucks to have to play it and make it look so bad.

I just completed it the other day and found it really enjoyable overall. It's like Oblivion meets HL2. Lots of fantasy/swords and fireballs nonsense, but quite linear. Lovely graphics, interesting story, and fighting is alot of fun because you can use the environment to your advantage, and there are plenty of tricks and traps to make difficult fights turn in your advantage. It ran very well too. If you can run HL2, this should be no problem.
