DAoC worth playing?

Hello everyone,

I just broke again my couple years lasted Lineage addiction (for the 13th time..) and I'm looking a new MMORPG to get into. I played DaOC in US beta and EU beta, but never got really into it. Seemed very complicated..all those skills.

Anyways, I had fun playing Lineage since I had lots of friends there who always helped me. I have no friends playing DAoC atm, of course I can make friends as time goes by. I just wish I had someone to help me get into game. I bet though that there is a lot of helpful high level players.

By the way, if there is any Finnish DAoC players here reveal yourself :) I myself am from Finland so it would be nice to hear from you too.

So now you can brag. What's so good about DAoC that I should play it? Be ruthless, diss other games, do whatever you wan't for me to get convinced lol. I'd like to hear the good and the bad sides.

And one thing I wonder. Why isn't there forums anymore on DAoC eu homepage. Or is it available only for paying customers?

I would recommend daoc to anyone. It is a truly great game, and I have been playing games since I got my first computer back in 1982 (a XZ Spectrum). I can safely say daoc is the best game I have ever played.

To answer your questions now, you will find it easy to make friends if you play. There are lots of people from Finland, Scandanavia and all across Europe in the realm I play in (Midgard). The game is confusing and intimidating when you first start playing, but you soon get over it. If you want to play Midgard/Excalibur and need some help/money/items to get you started, look me up name is Genghis....

And lastly the official forums were closed, and the community now lives on BW. I guess they closed because it was mostly whines and a bandwidth/resource drain for no real gain, imho anyway.

You'll prolly hear (or have seen) a lot of bitching about GOA here and if you are one of those that REALLY REALLY have to have everything perfect and know that everything is ok then you should reconsider it a litte (not to much tho, GOA has improved ALOT since they started daoc-europe :) )

Anyways, chesnor said, this is one of the greates games I've ever played (only surpassed by X-COM enemy unknown and Daggerfall :) )... The one thing I like about playing on the EU servers is that the US-servers got their patches before us and I can find out what's good and not good about those patches

If you decide to start playing daoc there's a ton of resources on the net that can be of great help. (daoc.catacombs.com is one of my all favourite daoc resources)

Good luck deciding to play or not to play daoc, always glad to see new folks on the servers ( and if you accidentaly start to play and choose Excalibur/Midgard drop me a note and I'll help you getting started )

There are a lot of Finns playing DAoC, on all realms and both English servers. There is Legions of Perkele on hib/excal, which I hear to be quite small and not so greatly organized. I think they are a pure Finnish guild.

Then there is, of course, our beloved Kalevala on mid/pryd, which has a lot of finnish members but many non-finns too. If you decide to buy the game and consider playing Midgard, pop in to prydwen and say hi, I'll teach you the tricks ;)

Isn't prydwen a roleplay server? I figured that there has to be atleast one guild with perkele (curse word) in it's name :D Well GoA atleast screwed up the beta quite good. There wasn't enough server capacity for all players and basicly you lagged out or couldn't get in.

Couple of questions: What's the point of relics? Just for fame ?-) I read something about of them increasing your realms stats..but ain't sure about that. I'm very fond of RvR (even though I have never done it ), since Lineage had castle sieges which were always a thrill.

If prydwen isn't a RP-server than what's the difference between it and Excalibur?

I read catacombs on a daily basis even though I never understand what all those that they talk about mean :) I heard though that middies have already overwhelmed power advantage against other realms so I might join some other realm to help their efforts and steal those relics from the evil middies :D

There is no difference per se between Excalibur and Prydwen; Prydwen is smaller, and populated by the REAL players *cough* :D

As for relics, they give the controlling realm certain benefits as far as RvR go; strength relics affects melee and power relics affect casting ;)

Difference between Prydwen and Excalibur servers is effectively nothing. The game has 3 realms you can play (Albion, Hibernia and Midgard) - each with different character types and races. On a single server you can create 4 characters from the SAME realm. Therefore by having 2 servers you can play 4 from 1 realm on Prydwen and 4 from another on Excalibur. You may have noticed that you can therefore only play on 2 of the 3 available realms - but if 8 characters isn't enough for you, then you've got too much spare time :)

No servers are roleplay servers per se, but there are several roleplay guilds around (think most are on Prydwen). Most people tend to play the way they prefer - some roleplay, some do not - it's up to you. The roleplayers seem to be in the minority.

Prydwen has less players on it in total. I believe that Albion is the most populated realm on Excalibur and Midgard on Prydwen. From what I've heard most of the 'lewt dewds' are also in these 2 places.

DAoC is my first MMPORPG and I am addicted (all the spare time my work and family allow is taken up by playing!). Most people seem mature (in play style and age) and if you find a good group of people and a good guild you will have great fun. Some nights I spend the whole time chatting to people and running around looking at things/dropping off items to people !
You will read negative comments on these boards - as with everything in life there will always be people who are dissatisfied and they will always be the ones who make the most noise. GOA have had problems, but they seem to be getting their act together so it's worth giving them the time to do so (and this is a pretty new game anyway).

Suggest you spend some time checking out the various info. sites and seeing which realm and character types you would like to play. There are various links on the DAoC EU site (if you haven't already found them). Perhaps try creating a couple of characters in each realm to see which you prefer - I suggest to try playing them to at least level 10 before deciding.

If you make it to Hibernia on Prydwen I will be happy to show you around :)

I might actually join Hibbies on prydwen, seems that you are a bit overwhelmed by other realms. That's what im reading from these boards..

Difference between Excal and Prydwen

Excal is highest populated server, so dungeons and other hunting places will be more crowded, and RvR will be crowded to enjoy, plus it seems like Excal attracts more idiots than Midgard/PRydwen does...which is a very hard thing ;)

about how much is player in realm in prydwen?
i believe albs is most, middies close and hibs are minority.
hibs is ok choice, stay away albs :).
our so dear guild (Kalevala) is small/med size but now all these hollidays keep people out from game.

most important is enjoy game and have fun, remember whine time by time! so goa dont think you are happy ::)

Ingame you can use the /advice command. This will give you names of people who are offering to act as advisors to help answer your questions. Of course, please bear in mind that as you ask, the person in question may well be knee deep in pygmy goblins (or the hibbie equivalent, of course) and half dead, so don't assume they can always answer straight away ;)

This also means the person in question can miss your /send entirely ;) If you don't get an answer, you can try to resend it, or try someone else. Someone's bound to be riding a horse etc ;)
