I really like this channel BUT can't people please stop giving out information on it?

I see it everyday, someone dies in emain, then write something like this in #daoc.prydwen: OMG LOL AT THE ALB/MID/HIB ZERG IN EMAIN!

And we have had several occasions where more important stuff has been said, the mid relicraid on hib where an alb "warned" hibs. Dunno if it helped them or not but still really serious imho. And he got a ban, which is good :>

I know there is impossible to prevent this from accuring, i'm just asking for the ops to be harder on it. As it is now it's accepted to ask people to do /who emain or whining about the big zerg that is currently ruling emain. And it shouldn't be, period.

Anyone else feel the same or am i the only one?

I'm never in there anymore, but I totally agree.
People who do those things, be it by ignorance on or purpose, are ruining it for a lot of other people.

If they really want to be serious about it they can just make a new channel and play their funny little spy games there, but the people who just slip up will at least learn to think twice before talking if they risk being faced with a (temporary) ban from the channel.

Not that a ban from it is a punishment though, more like a reward :p

Eh...

I've been on the chan for like most of my DAoC time. Ive only seen 3-4 times when someone said BEFORE a raid was noticed that there was one. Few times someone has said "few mids wiped me in blaablaa" but its just the same as /as or /gu tbh. It could be a lot worse.

Warn = Ban

How can it be the same as /as and /gu?

I can count the times I've read other realms /gu on my.... well.... I haven't ever actually.

1) You can't do anything about it, cause IRC has nothing to do with mythic/goa/whatever, really, so if an alb warn a hib about a mid relic raid... too bad, sadly.

2) If you die and warn on IRC you should be slapped upside the head for using third party programs ;), right kemor? :p

Lets see... #daoc.prydwen consists about 200 people. 50 actively chatting there. /as consists max ~500 people. /gu consists those 50 (Usually).

Im not saying its a good thing no, but telling someone that "mids in emain" isnt that bad since its very obvious and people who go to frontiers are looking for a fight, so whats wrong informing people that there are people out there looking for someone to kill?

Raids are different tho. In raids you want to keep it secret to hold the advantage of surprise. But not at all times we see that the group that just wiped you was heading to a raid.

Bottom line is, as long as it stays within limits, its fine. I dont care.

I distinctly remember when albion mounted a relic raid on hibernia last month, Teador started blabbing about it on IRC within a few minutes. Of course, most of albion already knew what was going in, and I'm sure word spread through the alliance chat in hibernia pretty quickly too. But what Teador did was to inform midgard what was happening and that we were obviously not around to guard our relic at that point.
Sure enough, 30 mins later a full scale relic raid was launched at Castle Excalibur by midgard.
Of course, there is nothing anyone can do about IRC. If you shut down #daoc.prydwen it would open somewhere else, nothing would be gained.
I suggest the next time we launch any major raids that someone chat logs the IRC channel and sends the logs to GOA if people start leaking details to other realms.

You cannot prevent it but you can:
1) Have responsible and active operators.
2) Have a strict channel policy.
3) Report abuse if someone breaks the CoC. (which they do if they use 3rd party software to share vital information)

Hand me that @ already

Irc is fun, being able to talk to people from the other realms and having a laugh, but this whole thing about people telling pals in other realms etc whats happening i.e. potential relic raids or legion hunts etc. Its just plain fucking gay when assholes do this, anyone who is caught doing this should be left in limbo(not allowed in grps in rvr or pve) this is the only way to stop these assholes, cause GOA etc wont do anything.

technicly they are breaking some rules by mythic/goa if they are able to chat on irc while playing...
Cause the game doesnt allow alt+tab, which means they are using that window screen program.

I doubt they will log out and say that on irc...
Yes, yes I know goa cant ban everyone using that program, since its a pretty big number id guess. But still, they are infact breaking something when they chat on irc about event unfolding "now", instead of past events...

Or two computers, as I do, mainly to keep in touch with friends on MSN.

Yep, I often use IRC to chat with the people who I just killed or were killed by, but I'd never use it to discuss current events or future plans. Such actions make any sort of planning a waste of time and ruin the game.

In fairness I think Goa/Mythic dont want you to do that though smurf. If they did we would be able to communicate in game I should think.

Maybe you shouldn't take this game and especially GOA that serious. IRC is fun and i think most people complaining about it have heard about IRC only in connection to DAoC and think it's some evil cheat program :)

Reminder: The tepic is't "irc is bad". The topic is "giving out information about what players from other realms are doing on irc is bad".

well, if someone from alb wanna warn for example mids about a large force of hibs in Odins, they can :

1) say it out loud on #daoc.prydwen

2) say it private on IRC

3) pick up a phone and say it

4) send an email

5) send it over ICQ/MSN or something similar

and so on

to take a shotgun and aim at #daoc.prydwen isnt fair at all imo.

Anyone giving out crucial info in public should be shot on sight, not only because of what they did but because they are so bloody stupid to say it in public.

just dont blame it on the ops will ya.

That channel is full of jibberish and kids talking trash (thank god for /ignore) and little vital info pass there in public as I see it.

My intention isn't to blame #daoc.prydwen or the ops, i just want people to stop giving out information. I blame the people that ARE giving out information.

If you can't see that people is doing it atm then you aren't really looking imo. I see it all the time, lol at this zerg, lol at that zerg.. Sure, it might not be of such a big importance every time, but we did have an occasion where an alb "warned" hib and i'm pretty certain this wouldn't have happened, or atleast the chance would be a lot smaller, if ops where harder about the people that goes: Lol, loads of albs/hibs/mids zerging in emain, or people that ask someone from another realm to do /who emain to get to know how many enemies are roaming there atm.
