Daoc locks up and after 20-30 sec it goes LD

Since yd I have this problem, the game locks up, I can't do anything, even alt-tab, and after 20-30 sec it shows the LD screen and with ESC I can get to the desktop. SI client, AMD proc, Win 98SE, 512 MB ram, Geforce4 Ti4200

win98 is teh sook and 5 years old.
Upgrade to XP, even if it isnt the problem here, next time it will be...

1st off /ignore tafaya for his not so useful info! ..ive used 98se since the release of DAoC with no probs at all..only prob i had was the patching 1nce or twice which has nothing to do with 98

Now then onto the prob..
Does it only happen in DAoC..or does it do it with other games u might play (games locking up etc..) If other games lock up chances are its summit to do with ya gfx card drivers, make sure you have latest ones & if you do already have them try un-installing & re-installing them followed by re-installing DX9.. its also worth checking up on ya mobo drivers, if you have a VIA chipset see if these need updating if so do that & follow it by re-installing DX9.

If its only daoc that locks up & you have tried the above then next step id try is re-installing daoc & keep ya fingers crossed. But imo..its ya gfx card playing up

First, I installed nothing new, modified nothing on my comp, this problem just appeared from nothing. Today I have installed Win XP Pro, Directx 9.0, latest video driver, fully reinstalled SI and the problem remains. Looks like only daoc locks up, I'm playing cs and there isn't any problems like that. I tried that to ping the server continously, and when the lock up and LD happened, there was nothing wrong with the ping.

Well, I guess we can only persume the LD screen isnt lying to you. That means that either your coms card (modem or whatever) is dodgy, or your particualr connection to the server. Its more likely to be the second (but cant help u there). I guess you could try a friends network card or something and see if you can elimiante that as a possible problem. DAOC isnt as robust as some games when it comes to connection problems...

Then again, you could just wait a week and see, probably just your ISP being crap.

The problem is:

1. The game locks up suddenly, the ambience music fades (not crashing), all 3 indicator is green.
2. Can't do anything for about 20-30 sec
3. The game is looks like starting again, there is some movement for about half of a second, then I got the LD screen.

There were two cases where this locking up lasted for about 5 secs, and I didn't get the LD screen.

Btw I have adsl.

Yep whate firewall are you using, the PCclin one cause massive amounts of lag on my pc

happened to be when i first got the game (btw made me roll an armsman rather than an elph BM coz of change of mind during the delay) anyway, it' almost certainly a graphics card driver issue, or other driver issue, update them all !!!

Ehe it is still spinning, but sometimes slows down :/ looks like this causing the problem

i got the EXCACT same problem and i got the EXCACT same gfx card.. might be some thing screwy with ti4200.
Or it might be the new drivers, cuse i cant remember having these problems since i reinstalled my system and there by downloaded new drivers..

from yesterday evening have had alott sometimes LD after LD, suddenly all work again nice.
this morning bott account have hard time even getting in, and main account suddenly again LD.

run yesterday pingplotter and GOA:s side was some pl.
hard to localise because its coming suddenly, kick me out of game and its allready late.

iam pretty sure its the latest drivers for ti4200 thats screwed up.. becuse i didnt have this problems befor i changed drivers.
anyhow where can i download old drivers for my geforce?
and do i have to remove the new ones befor i put in the old ones?

i've been getting constant random LD's since the last patch and foundations. i have updated windows xp, re-installed classic & s.i, updated dir.x, updated all drivers, cleaned all fans & checked all pc connections. i can play all other mmorgs fine, ie: swg,everquest & asherons call2, but still getting ld's with d.a.o.c!!
i've been playing d.a.o.c for about 14 months without any problems at all, but the last patch/foundations really screwed me.

have tried uninstalling foundations and re-installing all, but no joy!
love this game but getting really hacked off now, help me PLEASE!!!

Jut a quick check list.

1) Disable your Firewall virus protecting software and all auto updates, and play.
2) Download the new Nvidia drivers, remove the ones you have and re-install even if it is exactly the same version.
3) Download and re-install Direct-x 9
4) check MB CPU, gfx CPU and memory chips temperature, you might be having an overheating problem.
5) Check BIOS if AGPx8 is enabled, if it is or it is on auto change it at 4x, also check if any power saving features are enabled and disable them.
6) One of your memory chips may have failed try removing one and play, try all combinations.
7) Check you cables to modem-phone line etc the may have suffered some tear and need to be replaced.
8) Try conecting via Dial-up and see if the problem persists.
9) Try another gfx card.
10) In the extreme maybe your CPU or MB has reached its limits and is ready to fail.
11) Check your HD, if you have more than one, install the game on another and try playing from there.

If nothing of the above helps try to figure out when the PC freezes.
Is it after a specific time of play if yes time it exactly, is it after zoning? is it at a death of yours etc etc try and figure out a patern and we will see from there.

Try loging Performance data, network data, and application running data while playing DAoC.

My Ld's seem to of stopped the last few days ,i did go ld a few times last night though, but nothing as abad as it has been.
i have been told (might be wrong) that the reasons for my Ld's were because of my isp which is BT broadband!!
when bt is at its busiest i get shafted it seems! nice 1

ok, excal is now back up ( hoo-fecking-ray ) but it seems now i'm going LD every 35 mins within fail or exception!! well annoyed.

any idea why its every 35 mins, some sort of cycle or .......?

any suggestions wud be really appreciated, my spec is about 3 or 4 replys back.
