This has been going on for a couple of nights now. I get 10-15 mins play in Spind then the DAoC client crunches the disk for a second and vanishes. The internet connection hasn't dropped.

WinXP Pro
Geforce 3 - 29.?? drivers
256meg PC2100
AthlonXP 1800+
Epox 8KHA+ mobo
BTopenworld ADSL with Alcatel frog.

Any ideas people ?

windows update program? messanger? I'd check to see what was running in task manager before starting to play to see if any rogue programs running? Nothing new, I'm afraid, but worth a check..

Bloody Hell, you still playing wij? (SoWat btw).

I get random dumps to desktop too, and I've no idea what cause sit. Installing the very latest detonator drivers seems to have helped a bit, but there's still something (that I can't find) causing this.

Windows XP Home
Athlon XP1700+
512mb RAM
Geforce 2 GTS

Further to this...

Having played around a bit, it seems graphic card related. It's almost as if the DAoC program thinks it has lost focus and therefore exits.

It only seems to happen (on my system anyway) during times of heavy graphical input (last night in Thidranki for example), when the system just can't get the data fast enough.

...course this could be total codswallop!

VIA chip sets cause problems with the graphics cards if you have them keep them updated....

Same here, Using Xp and I've updated my memory too.

I thought I was being hacked, I'm too much of a computer n00b.

So I'd like to second the memory stick question?

His memory stick might be faulty, meaning: not working as it was supposed too.

Although I suspect his VIA Mainboard here, the chipset is quite picky about memory although every brand can run just fine on it, there might be unsuspected errors.

Personal memory brand favourite of mine is APACER for SD-RAM (100/133 Mhz) and TwinMos for RIMM aka RD-RAM (800/1066 Mhz) and DDR-RAM (266/333/400 Mhz)

Also, on a side note.

I myself am experiencing a lot of problems with my msi mobo with VIA chipset, Athlon k7 900 Mhz and my GF4 ti 4400, more info, or if you want to help warp to here.

Regards and good luck :D

If you look around various Camelot forums on the web, you'll see that lots and lots of people are having Crash to Desktop problems. I think most of them appeared after downloading the 1.50 patch, but it seems that the 1.53 patch has caused a lot of problems too (something for us to look forwards too!).

You are most likely to get the problem if you have a GeForce, Athlon, and Windows XP.

I had no problems with WinME, but after 'upgrading' to WinXP, I had lots of crash to desktops from DAoC.

I've since installed the latest Detonator Drivers (40.72) and I also downloaded the Windows XP service pack (which did have a specific fix for Athlon/DirectX crashes to desktops) and the problem appears to have gone away. It doesn't seem to happen in Morrowind which has similar problems either.....may be just a matter of time before it happens though as i've not been playing DAoC as much recently.

Lots of people seem to have downloaded the XP service pack and still have problems though.

Geforce gfx card (with the notorious nv4disp.dll)

regular dump to desktops and nv4disp.dll BSODs - even with the latest nvidia drivers. It's a major pain for me as it normally happens right in the middle of a fight, or when I'm stealthed near some albs.

The only solution is do downgrade your OS - however, I can't as I'm using the networking/net sharing stuff built in to XP.

NOTE - I get NO problems playing other 3d games - only bloody daoc!
