More MMO news today. You lucky DAoC peeps are to get yet another (money making)expansion. DAoC : Catacombs with create underground levels for Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard. An interesting addition this time round are Instanced Dungeons.

"Catacombs' system of "player versus monster" instanced dungeons will allow more casual players of Dark Age of Camelot to quickly find and adventure in exciting and challenging areas geared to their level. By eliminating the need to search (and sometimes wait) for monster encounters, in Catacombs, players generate private adventuring areas for their groups on their schedule."

Also on the cards is a major art upgrade and a new playable class. The full press release can be found here.

Yes lets rip our customers off even more by putting in the dungeons that should have been in the SI expansion.

why oh why does every damn mmo company keep going down the route of 'instancing' - its a crap idea. Basicly means u can go to a place and that place is only for your grp - so ur grp can go to a dungeon and farm the whole place without meeting a soul. What is the point in a mmorpg of adding places where people can go to be solo? I thought the whole point of a mmo was to play with MANY people, not make ur own personal little dungeon that only you can enter and farm away inside it...

because like TOA was really a big success.. The only reason anyone played TOA is cause of the advanage u get from artifacts and ML, otherwise everyone hate playing in TOA.
Most of SI is unpopulated, sidi is now pointless, once everyone has TOA done for their main chars it too becomes pointless.

The best, and most useful expantions have been the free downloadable once, Foundations., and soon coming New Frontiers.:touch:

I have to admit I actually like the idea of 'instancing'. When I used to Play DAoC, one of the things I used to hate was geting online and having none of my friends there. (I'm not good at meeting new people, even online) With something like this it turns a MMORPG into a very small single player game when you want it to be like that.
I still won't be returning to DAoC, but I like the idea that in the future, if I have noone to play with I can play with myself ;)

thats exactly what should not be in a mmo though, single player 'areas' of a mmo? canyou say defeats the point entirely?

The whole point to me about a mmo is that you DO have to meet people, you DO have to wait for camps, you DO have to share the same dungeon with everyone else.

It's not a bad idea. Should make a pleasant diversion and will be great for the PL'ers but mostly I like to xp around other people even if most of the time I'm solo with my BB. I like to share buffs around and rez lowbies if I can :) Quite partial to ppl rezzing me as well :)
