Wouldn't it be a mighty good idea to start developing a Dark Age of Camelot 2? Or am I the only one who thinks that it could bring daoc up to the top of the mmorpg world in the number of subscribers?

DAoC 2 would either be more of the same (in which case they might as well release an add-on..ToA makin it daoc 3 then) which would mean they were competing with themselves..and not making much money out of it. or it would be different and have things that current members might not like etc in it...so ending up ona diff market, hence the new game they are making being completely diff to daoc..money money money.

Mythic has stated several times that they don't intend to make a DAoC 2. Instead they intend to keep working on DAoC to keep it up to date.

Personally I like that approach, provided it's realised properly. What I'd like to see for DAoC is a decent attempt to integrate the game world better. Create more consistency throughout the game and not have balance changes detract from the game world making sense.

Trials of Atlantis is pretty much a separate world from the rest of it and that's ok, I mostly mean Shrouded Isles, New Frontiers, Catacombs, etc. Mythic should try very hard to keep things one whole and not a chain of expansions linked together, so it has the feel of a new game with a big world rather than an old game with lots of expansions :p

An example of the balance changes: New Frontiers redesigned relic temples, with 3 shrines that can be lowered, etc. But since 1.71 enemy relics are placed into regular keeps, making the brand new relic temple design outdated. Also it doesn't make sense to put a powerful relic you want to defend into just another keep.

Game balance is important of course, but too many quirks such as this solely for the purpose of game balance detract from the experience and makes a game feel 'hacked' into balance rather than designed.

I don't know if this made any sense to anyone but me, but suffice it to say it's not easy to keep a game concept up to date without starting from scratch sometimes.

I think its good that they are planning on updating the game. Problem is, they need to get a new player base as a hell of a lot of people are leaving. New players are going to get bored, due to lack of leveling groups. Mind you, we all know WoW is gonna be shit, so we will all be returning to DAoC after a month anyway.

Im with Thorarin on this, making a mark 2 of anything rarely works, youre better off trying to fix what you have than going back to formula. I think a lot of people would be put off by a second attempt at this game.

Fixing the current problems of population is down to GOA and their publisher, whos doing a shit job and needs kicking into touch badly. Numbers make this game interesting for us all, lets face it, the sociability of DAoC is themain thing that keeps us here.

The game as it isnt that bad, and still boasts the best PvP and RvR combo around. Sure, quit for WoW or whatever game comes next, but you wont find the diversity this game has to offer.

I don't know anything about games design, but I would have thought that if they haven't already begun designing it, then there will be no DAOC2 for 2-3 years minimum. And that means that without new players, the existing player base will slowly dwindly; I really can't see expansions introducing new players (particularly of the type they have come up with already which were hardly new player friendly)

What that says to me is that they intend to milk subs on DAOC until it dies a natural death - who knows when that will be? 5 years? I would be very surprised if they weren't working on a replacement right now (know nothing about imperator)

Aye the thing I was referring to is expansions not getting at all as many new players as possible. I'm sure there are tons of players who wished they would have joined Daoc earlier since it's too much work nowadays and some feel akward about starting a mmorpg several years after it's release. A sequel would get all those new players in, and also be getting all the daocers to join in as well.

I would just hate to see the world of daoc dissappear :(

Anyone know any numbers of current subscribers btw?

what they need to do is phase out Classic / si (probbly toa soonish) and just bring out a single game called Dark age of Camleot Which has everything included as a single install set.

ANd do that every 6 months phase out the old parts of the game and basically for 15 pounds bring the whole game up to date.

So for new people coming to the game they dont have to worry about buying 3 or 4 different expansions (yes i know they got platinum edition) but just being able to go to the shop buy 1 copy of the game and installing and running from the beginning with access to all the new features like classes / races.

Personally i think mythic need to do the next free expansion as a complete overhaul of the existing crafting method. Continue to fix toa IN that making it less lame for casual players. Rvr May need a bit of a tweek but i would say NF is how it is meant to be with keeps being the key issue (dont flame) relics changing hands not on a daily basis but on more a monthly or even weekend basis.

Although they should fix some serious issues that are breaking the game, and as for Goa they need to either MOVE the servers or get on open transits back to fix the problem. OR they are seriously going to start loosing customers, I know its not their problem but its a fact that lag is screwing people badly.
