Blah well here goes:

For a while ive been experiencing freeze ups in games for about a month or so for about 30 seconds ro so causing link deads from DAoC and PS, when i logged back in the graphics were screwed up to hell, pixels missing everywhere which was the single most annoying thing EVER.

So after putting up with this for about a month or so, 7am this morning i smell what i think is TCP, run around the house wondering where its coming from then i realised it was coming from my PC.
I sniff behind and what i smell is BURNING, quickly shut down my computer and everything to have a look and found my lovely new shiny Geforce glowing a nice shade of orange, so i let it cool down and i try to find out what the hell is wrong with and and it turns out every 3/4 revoulutions of the fan, it sticks....ffs.

Right so ive been looking for an excuse to go out and buy a rdeon for about a month or so and this was a perfect opportunity for me, so off to the computer shop and i bought myself a radeon 9600, 128MB DDR etc, seems ok, well i needed a replacement now so i grabbed it and an optical mouse since my mouse was getting old too.

Currently getting the new catalyst drivers now.

I can say for one ive completely lost faith in Nvidia. :(

Was the card actually manufactured by Nvidia?

I seriously doubt it, they more-than-likley just provide the GPU. I should check that the fan on your Radeon isnt made by the same manufacturer as the one that was on your FX. ;)

*cough* Hardware Forum *cough*

Its just bad luck when these things happen, nothing more. Pity the lockups etc didnt make you think that the card was overheating.

These things happen when substandard motors are used. The temperatures dry out any lubrication in the fan motor, and you get increased friction.

Might be an idea to buy a nice quality fan for your new gfx card so it doesn't happen again.

Have I mentioned water cooling before? Okay maybe once or twice.

Even if the fan on the radiator fails I still get enough passive cooling to keep my graphics cpu and Northbridge cooled. Only if the pump fails am I up shit creek , but they supplied a nice led to say when its working so thats okay too.

I did think it was overheating but it never occured to me than the fan had acctually ceased to rotate until today when it burnt.. :)
