Lots of cyclists on here, so what forums do you use? I hope this won't offend, but whilst we have the odd freddybike topic here, I'd like to hear which people tend to find best for lots of info?

I used to do an 11mile commute on a fixed loooong before they became fashionable, and as I've just got back into sailboat racing, and cycling is really good training for the boat I race, I thought I would give it a go again.

I'm probably going to get a new bike as my lovely employer (me) is happy to do the bike to work scheme, and even pay me a smidge more, so the cost of the bike makes no difference to my take home (aren't I nice to myself?).

Cheers

John

I use non, other than the odd freddybike thread or random chatting with Will. To my great shame, I have been letting the biking slide completly and haven't really done anything since last November :(
What I mean to say is...good on ya for getting back on the bike mate :D

Bike Radar is ok for general stuff, I like the pro-racing forums for all the dope gossip. Community-wise London Fixed-gear and Single-speed used to be pretty good fun before the whole fixed thing went bonkers.

I did had a fixed bike a couple of years back too. At the moment I only have my TCR gimp machine. Tried the off-road stuff a few times but never gotten into it.

Yeah, I'm really frustrated that fixed has gone fashionable. It means the old beater frames which you would pick up for a fiver are fetching silly money because they have 'ideal for a fixie project' in the title.

My old fixed was made from entirely free parts, apart from paying someone to build the wheels for me. But it had a Pinarello frame, mavic rims with Shimano Deore front hub, and mostly named quality components, sourced from scrap bins for the rest.

I've only been back on my bike for the last month or so, after the best part of 10 years off. I've been reading the cyclechat forums a lot. Not joined yet, but may well do. They seem a friendly bunch.

I used to hang out on YACF a bit, mostly for the audax advice, but nowadays I only really loiter at The League which isn't really an active forum though I have mates there.

I have a really uncool fix as my main bike. It has mudguards, two bottle cages, a Schmidt Dynohub, a rack, a front brake and sensible handlebars. I'm not down with the cool kids. Thank fuck.

And a singlespeed 29er as my mtb. :D

Suppose it depends what your interested in. I use Cyclechat, Bikeradar and CTC, but mainly interested in touring stuff (I commute 25miles a day but got sick of commuting forums which are all whining).

Prolly prefer Cyclechat as it's seems a friendly crowd, and get get to know regular posters with a lower turnover than Bikeradar. CTC is a bit too beardo, although as I say mainly on the touring forums.

TBH IMHO and experience, specialist forums do tend to get a bit fractioned and end up in arguments and people with knowledge throwing toys out and arguments as a result.

FH 4 teh win TBPFH ;)

That is the way of things with forums too I find, Jup. But once you weed out that kind of shite, you're often left with valuable resources of information and reviews to help with choices.

Cheers, that's given me some to look at anyway :D

Cycling forms are by and large full of beardy lefties, many of whom haven't a clue how to ride. I steer clear.

I am just awaiting my letter of collection for a purchase I have made through my companies recently introduced cycle to work scheme.

I will post a picture when I collect it sometime next week, but I don't mind admitting to feeling a little dirty at what I've done...

Not quite I'm afraid, the budget didn't stretch that far.
