Right, so i figured it's finally time to get off my lazy arse and get a job. I remember making a 'test' CV in school but my memory of what the hell was on it has gone right out the window ^^.

So if anyones got an tips of what to put on your CV, presentation of it etc, would be mucho appreciated.

Cheers :)

Name and contact info (ofc)

Work experience

Non work experience (i.e. work for nonprofit private organizations, drivers license, other licenses)

Skills and abilities

Write it short and specific, no more then one or two pages, organize it either chronolgicly or in order of importance... always back it up with a personal letter with indepth explanations where needed, make sure its not more then one or two pages aswell.

there is probobly a buttload of great websites with tips and tricks on how to write a pulitzer price CV if you google for a while. Or ask your local unemployment office for hints.

Realistically, the best way to get your CV looking good is to use other peoples' examples that have done well.

Some good example CVs:

http://www.bradleycvs.co.uk/cvservice/examcv.htm

http://www.cvtips.com/CV_example.html

http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/cv/cvexamples.htm

Hope these help. Every CV is different depending on your background and experience, and should be tailored for each position to apply for.

Just a couple of tips:

ALWAYS check your spelling and grammar - if these are poor your CV will go straight into the bin - I cannot stress this enough. Always get someone else to proof read it for you and don't rely on the computer spellchecker.

Be concise - don't blather on, keep what you're saying short and to the point.

Don't use "I" all the time - makes you sound self centred and not a team player.

If you want any more specific advice, or if you want me to proof-read it for you (I review reports day in, day out so I'm quite good at that :p) then send it to me by pm :)

Best of luck in getting a job :)

Make sure you put all your DAOC toons right at the top, next to your name! Plus your total bump count on the HoC forum!

Long Text

I disagree with you here, i think the layout should be

Contact Details
Personal Statement
Previous Employment History
Uni/college Grades
GCSE Grades
References

The reason for this is we could both apply for the same job, now lets say we have the same results.
The employer will look at our previous work history, as well as our personal statement. If you can capture the attention of the employer from your personal statement (aka the first few seconds of picking your CV up) he will be far more inclined to carry on reading.

I also disagree with this. An employer will look at alot of CV's, the websites that say "Use our template it r0x0rs" are quite nice cv's...but everyone is using these hence the employer will go "oh look, generic cv #50102 is here, i wonder if the layout is the same as the other 50101 we've received".

I would suggest looking online, but dont just copy 1 cv, look at several and try to encapsulate the effect they were going for, but with a bit of originality.
