"As the title says, i'm having problems running Dark Age of Camelot: Trials Atlantis with my Ati Radeon 9700 Pro.

I'm using the ones released before xmas, Catalyst 3.10, and they are working with no problems at all. I've never had a crash with them, nor any graphic bugs and such.

But when i try to use Catalyst 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 i get some random lockups in the game. It seems like i can play 1 hour sometimes, other times i can play for 4 hours with no problems. What happens is that i'm in the middle of a fight and then boom, the game freezes, i cant ALT+DEL or anything to get out of the game. When it crashes I am also hearing some very strange sounds like its playing through the whole memory resulting in lots of bleeps and white noise.

I tried writing a post on Ati's forum (Rage 3d forums with technical help) but i've not had any replies. Since i want to use the newest drivers due to speed and better options i hope you can help me or at least try to explore this. I'm also hearing the same from other people, one of my guild friends who's using an Ati Radeon 9800 XT.

Windows XP,
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz 800 fsb,
2*512 mb ddr 400 mhz in dual mode,
Asus P4C800 Deluxe,
Creative Audigy 2,
Ati Radeon 9700 Pro using Cat 3.10,
Direct X 9.0b"

"Hello,

We invite you to go on the following web site in order to uptade the drivers of your grafic card :

http://www.ati.com/support/fr/driver.html

After this, reinstall DirectX 9. You will find it at :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en

Then if you had a shipset VIA go to the following site for your motherboard :

http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 to download and install the next file :
VIAHyperion4in1v4.48.exe

Then try to settle the display's mode of windows in 16 bits if you were in 32 bits.

Be carefull, mythic does not guarantee a compatibility between Daoc and windows 2000

Yours sincerely,

"Like i said in my previous reply, i can not play with the latest drivers installed. That is my problem which i'm trying to make you aware of, and i hope that it might be possible for you to make ATI or Mythic aware of this problem too.

"After this, reinstall DirectX 9. You will find it at :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=141D5F9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en"

I already have the latest DX 9 version installed.

"Then if you had a shipset VIA go to the following site for your motherboard :

VIAHyperion4in1v4.48.exe"

Why would i install something for a VIA chipset motherboard, when i wrote that i'm using an Asus P4C800 Deluxe chipset that is Intel based?

"Be carefull, mythic does not guarantee a compatibility between Daoc and windows 2000"

Does that also include that you dont guarantee compatibility between Daoc and Windows XP?"

Goa's reply to #3
----------------

"Hello,

Concerning your drivers, we are aware of this problem, and it will be fixed in an upcoming patch.
Also, we would like to point out that even though you have DirectX 9 installed, you should reinstall it anyway after updating video drivers.

Additional to that the point about compatibility with Windows 2000 does not include Windows XP. They are based on the same kernel but they are different in the way they use resources which is why there is a compatibility issue with Win 2000.

Sorry for the delay in our reply.

Yours sincerely,

So it actually works, you just have to be sure to keep hitting them with emails until they finally realize what your problem is, cough.. Although i am not sure they even realize the precise problem i was trying to make them aware of.. Ah well, who cares, back to good old Nvidia again.

I had this problem with my Radeon card, and more recently with Neverwinter Nights. In the end, I turned down the AGP speed and now it works flawlessly.

Haha, yeah, you might aswell ask the guards in the towns about stuff like that, as email rightnow about it.

"Hi!

I am about to buy a new GFX-card, and since DAoC is my maingame atm, I will base the purchase on what card performs best in DAoC. So the question is simple, I am chosing between ATi x800 Pro, and GeForce 6800GT. What would you recommend? I would also like to know if DAoC runs in OpenGL or in Direct3D, I guess D3D, but would be nice to be 100% sure :)

Thanks in advance."

hardly cause to be sarcastic.. how can u expect them to NAME one Card over another.. theyre not allowed to.. it would be seen as being biased.

If you were able to read, you would see that I ask what 3D mode daoc runs in too, but I failed to see the answer to that. Maybe you saw it, if so, where? Also, different cards perform different in different games, I doubt they are not allowed to tell their costumers that card X has a slight performaceadvantage in game X.

hi all.

i found that using the new nvidia drivers with my Creative geforce 4 ti 4400
that i would get a major gpx bug and it would lock up and intermittanty intervals..

i rolled my video drivers back to the ones listed at the microsoft website for win 2000 pro.. and i no longer have a problem with them..

Does mean i cant play Thief 3 or CoH without experienceing problems but not as bad as DAOC with new drivers

hope that helps

actually NO theyre not allowed to tell you which Card runs better, its a simple policy that the majority of companies run, when i worked for a computer company we used to get asked all the time which product was best to use in conjunction with ours, ofc we knew Nvidia xxxx was better but werent allowed to tell them, we had to say we support blah blah blah.. something to do with fair competition that the watchdogs insist you abide by.

which part do you not understand? thats because they have a DEAL with that company to advertise theyre product in exchange for hardware to benchtest and try new stuff out on... and cash to help fund theyre project..

afaik neither GOA nor Mythic have ANY such deal, so therefore they wont say Nvidia is better... theyll give you the list of compatible devices..

i understood the point that you were trying to make..that they are not allowed to say which is best

which is ofc bullshit, just like most of the other shit you post on here, like accusing random people of being scammers then not responding when proved wrong.

All companies can say which product works best with thier product. They list both because both work, ATI and Nvidia. These days there is very little difference between the 2 anyway, just drivers.

And even if he was right for the first time ever, the response is still bs. If they cant tell me, they can say "we cant tell you" and then answer the second question. Other than that, I agree with Raven, I doubt they are not allowed to say "you will probably find product X to work better with our product." But as I said, I am not sure, but in either case, the answer they gave me is still totally useless.

well its not just graphics cards that could be your problem, i use a radion 9800 pro with no problems, i used to use and Nvidia something or other with no problems. it could well be your main ram having problems or even something on your motherboard.

it may be worth while to update the bios on your gfx card ....

you can check out omegadrivers.net and have a look around there site for the bios update which they do have on.

check the codes against your own bios on your gfx card and update if you want.

it may help with the problems you have or may not but its 1 thing you can check out.

ps i have a 9700 pro and i dont get the lock ups as you mentioned but i did update the bios on my 9700 pro.

hope it can help

i had same problem of the game crashing out to the desktop i simply rolled back the drivers and it works fine again. Decreasing the speed on the AGP works also, but why do it?
reducing your performance for the sake of a few new drivers?

The US loading screen has the NVidia log all over it :p

Personally GOA I dont think GOA should be held to ransom over your problems with hardware. Theres a perfectly good techy section here thats full of user problems and fixes. You cant expect GOA to know the ins and outs of your problems, and they cant know the details of every card on the market, they are games masters, not tech heads.

One thing that springs to mind is the networkcard issues, if that wasnt resolved this patch, it might be one more thing youve overlooked, getthe manufacturers drivers not the MS ones etc etc.

IMO getting a reply to your RN was decent of GOA.
