hi .

bought a new mobo last week its a K7VT4A PRO
The ram i used to have in was corsair ram 512mb (x2 256 sticks) i bought new ram "1gb stick" few days ago on ebay. checked the ram was compatible etc "seemed to tally up fine and be compatible.

this is the ram i bought
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6862481974&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1

here is Mobo and spec
http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0

Now the thing is before i put new ram in the 512 did work and i v v rarely ctd'd (if at all) but when in built up places for example the lag was horrendous.

so i stuck new ram in this morning.. according to "System info" it has 1gb of ram in it so i know i put it in correct,
but now when i enter game.. the lag is virtually non existant. but after a min or so it crashes to desktop . no error message nothing just closes Daoc.

could this be a problem with the ram ? is there something im supossed to do etc to make ram work better?

other comp bits you might wanna know is

Windows Xp Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro Gfx
AMD Athlon 2400+
On system information part is has 2ghz underneath the amd athlon 2400+ (i dont know wot it means cos ima tech newb)

so any of you guys with knowledge can enlighten me?

thnx in advance for all ,,,, if any replys :)

First thing I would do, is take out the new RAM, and stick the old stuff back in. See if it is still doing it then. I know it seems likely that it will stop, but its best to double check. If the crashes stop happening, then at least you know 100% it is related to your RAM. :)

might be bad ram (broken), try with memtest, www.memtest.org

ye.. try that: You need to burn the .iso (with nero orwhatever) and put cd in ur drive, reboot and it'll run... assuming you have ur cd drive before harddrive in boot sequence, else you have to change that to in the bios. Run this program for a few hours (maybe 1 day if you got the time).. errors = bad memory, no errors? -> search google whatever.. you probably need to change the timing on the bios/memory.

Might also be compatibility issues with the motherboard, the ram doesnt neccessarily have to be broken as such. Often the case with noname crap quality ram, although Corsair is a well respected brand name so should be no problem really. Checked the motherboard manufacturers webspace? Maybe there is a forum there where you can check if people have had similar issues with that brand of ram etc?

also if i bought new ram from elsewhere (better make/higher price) you think that would sort it? or would i possibly have same issues.

However... if u need to return stuff it is pretty wank (they take a long time to test it etc). I would go for corsair ram and spend around 50 pounds. i did this and its absoulutely great (i went for 2 gig tho :p)

acording to my motherboard it will only take 2gb total. was orignially considering x2 2gb sticks but wont go in so was gonan get x2 1gb sticks .

should generally fit ram in identical pairs to avoid this kinda thing. my advice is go out and buy another identical 1gb stick, you dont need it now but u will soon :)
