CS locks/freezes HELP!

cs keeps locking on me.the game just stops and the sounds that were playing at that moment keep on repeating.can anyone help?this is really doing my head in especially since getting a good connection is impossile on my 56krap.

ive got a similar prob.....i get good pings in gamespy...when i try to connect to server....counterstrike loads up ok untill it gets to "connection accepted by (isp no)"then it just stops dead.

why??
it works fine with other isps
and i get good pings with barrys world in gamespy
help???
