CS Game Lag

Ok it seems that some of you have the same problems I have with CS. Can connect to the servers fine and play, but every few rounds I get lag and "BAD CONNECTON WARINING" - then the lights on the modem have a disco and everything is back to normal again.

I have tried reinstalling HL, Hl Patches then full CS 7.1 - same prob.

Tried different ISPS - NTL World, Barrysworld, WPants Direct - same prob.

Tried different servers - WPants, WPants Direct, Barrysworld, Demon - same prob.

Tried tweaking me CS settings - i.e. Rate 3500 to 5500.

Tried new modem drivers, graphics drivers etc.

Anyone got any ideas?? or is it just the netcode in CS? I never used to get this problem when I first installed about 2 months ago then it happens all the time now.

Cellery 466
128mb RAM
Creative Modem Blaster Ext
Windows ME
HL version 1.1.0.4 (or whatever the latest is!) and CS 7.1.
Connect at 46 - 52k (limited to 46k)
Pinging at 160 - 180

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated - or will I have to do a reformat or get Home Highway??

well i had this problem too, there r things i did abuot it and it seems to work fine now. one was to set the screnn size really low, like 400 x 600 ore something like that. it makes crappy graphics but gameplay is fine. also there are some tweaks you can do to hl but ill have to get back to you on that cos i have to find the instructions for doing it. ill post them tomorrow if i gfind them ok.

have you tried lowering your connection speed. It works for me. For online gaming a stable connection is more important than throughput. For me I play at 36k. If I connection at the default (usually 48-49k) then I get the symptoms that you described. so try it at 36k or even V34.

OK will try limiting connection speed to 36-40k or even v34 see what that does.

Pain in the arse this is though as it didnt happen to start with!

Hmmmmmm

Ok did complete reformat and reinstall of Windows (ME) - playing tonight on BW dialup for about 2 hours and not one connection problemo - my ping was pants tho jumping from 160 to 220 - I hadnt done any tweaks as I was cautious of the problems I was having before. But hey seems to be ok now!! weird

can you tell me if you have IPX installed as well as TCP/IP when you reinstall Windows? Just curious.

Nope it just installs TCP/IP no sign of ipx/spx

This sounds like one of two things....either your modem is retraining (fixing modem speed at lower setting as suggested before will help this) OR. You have intermitent line noise (ive had this before). If its at regular intervals then it will cause your game to screw until it stops
