crafting recipe says i need a pattern, where do i find these?

In albion: Upstairs in the pub in cotswold is the hat merchant.

He sells a few types of "roleplaying hats" (ie AF 0), and low-level (same AF as armour you could buy from other merchants), and the patterns needed for crafters to make these.
