Crashing usually every hour, sometimes longer sometimes less.

Ok, so heres the problem.

The only problem I have is when playing DAoC. Ever since beta my computre compleatly shuts down. It usually does it around every hour, but it has done it after 5min, and sometimes even reached up to a few hours. I try to avoid this with constant relogging, about every 30min and this is really getting on my nerves because of taking so long to buff everyone as im a Bard, and getting everything set up again. But what is most annoying is when im PvE:ing or RvRing and it crashes in a vital situation and when I get back (this usually takes 5min+ because the computer runs some secure programs after crashing to check that there is nothing wrong with the computer), im back in Ardee (my bind location).

Now I don't know what causes this, but I hear some people have had similar problems. I haven't tried too many things to fix it because I just have no idea why it does this since it works just fine with everything else.

I have an AMD Athelon 1300mhz, 512ram, GForce2, Win XP, 60gb memory, adsl 1mb and all the other sweetness. I've had this for 2 years now and it has worked fine with everything.

Some people say it might be because of Win Xp, and some people say I need to upgrade my programs. But does anyone know for sure what causes this and how to fix this? Because I really wanna get rid of this problem!

Thanks for having the time for reading, hope you can help.

Regards Miss.

If you relog then you get another hours play ?

I was thinking maybe it could be overheating, causing it to crash.
Try updating all your drivers, especially gfx card and VIA drivers

It's not overheating, I know this because i've tested this out and once I just turned on the computer and after 5min of playing I crashed.

I did say that it might crash from 5min-2h... It usally crashes inside 1h though... 99% sure.

So even if I relogg, I might crash inside that 1h before I even get to relogg again, and I always have to move to a safe place to do the relogg.

Maybe you got another program running in the back which causes this problem...<just a thought>

One more thing..does this only happen with DAOC or do yóu have the same problem with other games aswell?

When Winblows starts do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete and see what other shit is running in the background.

But updating drivers is the only thing I can suggest.
Or go back to Win98se :D

When i first got DAoC i had the same problem i fixed this by doing 2 things

1) Updating graphic drivers and other drivers when your doing some updating.

2) closing down anything that is running in the backgroup that includes your anti-virus software, only thing i have running along with DAoC, if my firewall but thats never made daoc crash...

if none of these work!! buy another computer

Well, I already do close all the other programs running in the back. Sometimes I might have mirc or mp3/real jukebox running on the back for listening music and to have something to read when I quit playing (usually have nothing to read though as I crash before I get to quit).

I'll try upgrading my drivers etc... but whats the link to the pages etc? ._.

well for starters do windows updates maybe it will fix some stuff that maybe conflicts with other software when running, then you need to find out what graphic card you have just do a search for you graphic card drivers of google.com

once you have updated all you drivers and you still have problem then it could be hardware conflicts again driver updates and if still you crash get in contact with GOA on "Right Now" telling them the problem and the stuff you have done trying to fix it, maybe they may now.

But in your next reply give details of you computer spec ie: windows/memory/graphic card and other stuff maybe it will give me a insight of what your running so i & other reading this maybe able to give you a hand in getting DAoC to running without crashing all the time on your computer

I have windows Xp that upgrades by itself when there comes new updates. I have nvidia GeForce 2.
Already got the update driver but too tired to test it out now as I would have to play an hour or two to see if its fixed. So more information tomorrow :)

maybe its because xp check for updates that you crash, but if u ask me it sounds like RAM error..

I donno how much u know of computers, but try replace your ram or remove one of them if u got 2 or more.

afaik daoc caches everything and over time your ram fills up more and more (hence the lag-solving by relogging, flushes the cache)
and when it starts to use the broken ram, you crash

thats my theory.

what happens when u crash? bluescreen? instant reboot? or daoc just closes?

Subbiz could be right, if you have windows XP doing upgrades itself, that would be costing your crash, as like for any program that starts up in the background is causing lost of data to DAoC which courses the crash, don't ask me why, bad programming by Mythic is what comes to my mind!!

If it was a RAM Error it would occur sooner, then letting you play for an hour or 2 then booting you.

When you get booted do you lose you Internet Connection or are you on Broadband/ADSL?

If you only have 128MB Ram i would suggest you buy another 128Mb (its cheap to buy)

Make sure you computer doesn't go below the Minimum System Requirements:

PIII 450 (1Ghz recommended) / 128Mb RAM
(256Mb recommended) / 600Mb free hard drive space
3D accelerated vedio card
with 16Mb (32Mb recommended)
Internet Connection
Modem 56 Kbs

anyway, but that may not be any problem as i see you have 2 lvl 50's (it crashing for you ever since the beta and you got 2 lvl 50's - you have guts and patiance i would have one made by now hehe)

Miss: Please in your next post give details on the crash what happens like Subbiz says does the bluescreen appear/instant reboot/or daoc just closes/

any computer details even if you don't know just doing 3dmark from www.madonion.com or org can't remember then run the brench test this will test you graphics card and at the end give infomation on your computer post those details here...

Ok off to play.. hope we can get this little problem sorted ;)

So... :p
I got all the requirements needed.

Btw, win xp dosnt crash daoc when it upgrades itself.
When I get other popups (hardly ever, only when I forget to shut something in the back), it crashes to windows. It's not the same crash. What happens is that I just get a compleat reboot. I'm playing one moment and the next moment comp is rebooting. Its just the same as if you would just turn your computer on when its off. Except it runs a secure program to check that everything is fine with the computer since it crashed "For no reason" is what is says.

And as sub says, I doubt thats the reason, I tested taking one of my 260mb rams out long time ago, but it still crashed. But, I dunno :p

Little test:

Before going into DAoC, right click My Computer, and choose Manage...

Then expand the Event Logs, and right click and clear each log (choose No to not save the logs).

Then, when your computer reboots, go back into the Event Logs and have a look at them, look for any that have warnings or problems, and especially the last few generated in the System and Application logs (Security log really isn't needed for a simple home user).

This will give you an idea as to what might be causing the error if is is a problem with a windows application, driver, or service.

Unless you know much about computers, and the NT kernel in particular, alot of the log reports won't make sense, but, as I said, look for any that have warnings or problems, maybe post an error code and the application that caused it here, and I or someone can see if we can help you.

Also, Microsoft designed a little feature into XP that means that you will no longer see the BSoD (Blue Screen of Death).

They did this by simply telling the PC to reboot instead of showing the BSoD, therefore they could say you will never see it again.

So, if you want to actually know what error XP is crashing with, you can do the following:

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

This will then allow you to see what is causing the problem. In the first few lines it will telll you the application/driver/service that caused the system failure.

bet you are using a VIA motherboard, maybe of the GA type?

Using a GA72 here, and it does exactly the same as yours :D

well, it did, then I got Win2k and it only happens once a week

euh, this kind of thing (similar symptoms to overheating cpu) happened to both me and my friend, running win2k on mobos with via chipsets...
one of the win2k service packs made it stop, but i suppose winXP already downloaded that?
Worth checking? Or am i underestimating winXP's thoroughness...

I was getting a very similair crash with a new comp. It turned out to be the graphics drivers, but I only found that out after doing wht Vidx suggested and making the autoreboot function stop working. Its been mentioned already but updating the graphics drivers may help.
later
