Just been playing Sim City 4 - how the hell do i get my people to :
1) have jobs (and yes there are lots of un-developed blue/yellow squares)
2) Give me SkyScrapers and uber looking houses as opposed to the crappy houses

Someone out there must know how to play Sim City.

BTW Transport Tycoon 2 out next month \o/

basically got private schools/uni/library in the centre of an area then houses built around that. build statues aswell then richer people come in. when you get the richest people with high education, build HT industry areas near their homes. build parks too and paved areas plus lots of trees and other goodies. make sure the air is clean aswell, make subways, less roads, get the clean air act and car poole act.

A city must grow out before it grows up. You'll be at a population of about 20,000-25,000 before you see your first, sickly, pathetic skyscrapers. As for filling industrial and commercial spaces, make sure you don't built too many, and build them with good transport links to pleantiful residential areas to provide employees. Commercial areas built on busy roads (i.e. a road linking industry to residential) will do well because of many customers.

Expensive buildings like airports and ports also encourage growth of industry and commercial areas.

Yeah, I really, really hope that doesn't suck, as Transport Tycoon is wonderful. I've gotten used to all the unofficial patches and stuff though, with advanced signals and such, so it might actually be a step backwards.

Maybe they do in the right forum :D

To be fair he might have been waiting till 2005 to get any kind of a response in the strategy forum. But there are much better sites to visit, for instance Simtropolis for info on Sim City.

Yeah I saw the screenshots. I don't really mind so much what it looks like as long as it plays well. The advantage of the RCT engine is that it's not totally limited to being on flat ground (plus very limited usage of bridges) as the original was, which might actually make a difference. The animations from the few videos look nice, also, but building track with the RCT engine looks to be quite a pain (a tradeoff for the flexibility, I guess.)
What I'll miss most, I think, is the advanced signals from the unofficial patches, like I said. Man, they make SUCH a difference.

OPenTTD is smooth, doesn't jerk while music plays, and can run in a bigger res. It really is far from complete though - not everything has been implemented (like higher payments for greater distances, erk!) - so TTDpatch will have to do.

And with TTDPatch this can be fixed by downloading the .dll which tells TTD how to play music through directx. Worked for me. It's on that site.

lol, tt music. its great. Me and a friend used to play tt far too much back in the day, building just trains on simple ptp links, none of these fancy networks. Come to think of it, most of my current game is manily ptp because signals confuse the crap out of me - got any tips? :)

hah, just thought of an amusing town name i found - generated by the game and i just had to put my HQ there... I'm now Cuntbourne Transport :)

Thanks louster :)

TTDX is the kind of game you can just sit and play by yourself for hours, not even against the computer. Just building, then sitting and watching. Like Settlers.

Yeah I totally agree, and this is why I hope the sequel does the original justice. It'd be wonderful to have a more modern version of such a great game.
