Crappy ISP

I decided this would be the best place to post this warning.

I was on a ISP called V21 (www.v21.co.uk) and was attracted by the fact that I could
  • Pay with my debit card (Solo)
  • They had 4 hour cutoffs instead of the usual 2hour cutoffs
  • It was only a tenna a month

I signed up thinking, wohoo, finally a ISP that suits all my needs, but we all know not such a think exists.

From day one it took many attempts to connect and on a 56k thats just pure pain.
I got various errors (A device attatched to your system is not functioning, username and password invalid etc).
I first thought this was my PC so i formatted and still had the same errors.
A couple of my friends had also since signed up and had the same errors so they closed their account.

I then called them to ask about the problems I was getting informing them that it was my friends who got the same errors also.

After finally getting through after sitting in a que listening to shitty replicated music and some daft recorded cow telling me im in a que i got through to a clueless tosser.

Telling him my problems he then said what time are you trying to logon.
Telling him the truth that I logon whenever I want, no set times (and also thinking what a prick i was talking too) he gave the reason that too many people were probably connected and they got some software to fix it that diddnt work so i said "can i close my account with you" and he said "yes sir, its done".
Thinking what a prick I then hungup.

Also, once i logged into my online control panel it told me that it was using the highest encryption but hovering over the padlock in my IE window told me it was only 56 bit so not only do they provide a shit service but they also lie so watch out for them.
The SuXoR.

P.S. In a letter i recieved from them, at the top of the page in the left hand corner was "untitled.doc".
Shows how official and organised they were, the letter wasn't even addressed to me, just had my address on.
GRRRRR @ V21. Stay clear ladies and gents.

erm:

A device attatched to your system is not functioning

is a com error mate, it means the modem hasn't even begun to dial out.

I used to use V21. It was OK but crap for gaming pings...
Now on AOL with BT line, pretty damn good :) connect at 48K Stay on as long as I like, the only thing is this built in browser :(
But i'm getting used to it
Pings are also pretty good on a Yuris revenge game, I can get as low as 120 ms ! :) :)

I signed up with free24-7.net, a subsidary of V21, its the same service but £8/month and without the news and e-mail servers.

Your story is a tried and trusted tale, V21 is undoubtedly the "no frills" ISP of the world.

I only signed up because I wanted a 4 hour cutoff, but for a few nights in a row I've been cutoff at exactly 2 hours - hmmm, coincidence I think not. I moved away from LineOne because they went from 3 hour to 2 hour cutoff and didn't tell anyone, now I have the same problem with V21/Free24-7 - grrr.

You can always visit the forums at www.ispreview.co.uk, the Free24-7 forum actually has a V21 guy who listens to your problems and answers them, you might have better luck there.

Not bothered any more with them as I've just ordered ADSL :)
