how come my fps are so crappy, in normal scenes in an empty enviroment its soooo slow.
im talking sub 30 fps most of the time here.
ok my sys is -
AMD k6-350
128 meg ram
and a creative voodoo2 12 meg
latest drivers, tribes v1.7
umm, i just dont get it, its always below 30 fps. In q2 i get timedemo results of 90 fps, in q3 i get results not below 35 fps. The res is 640 x 480 and the detail is on high as it looks cack on anything else.
the fps dont really change form one res to another.
so what is it, is it that tribes aint AMD optimised ????????
help me, tribes is a brill game, just i aint playing it caus it run shitty.

I was running a K6-2 300 until recently with first 1 12MB V2 and then 2 of them in SLI. I rarely got fps of over 30, this is because the machine is processer-bound. The AMD does not have a powerful floating point unit, and Tribes has no 3D-now optimisations at all. Quake2, however, has excellent 3D-now optimisations, which make a huge difference (btw, ignore timedemos on demo1.dm2 - they're worthless - download crusher.dm2 and use that to see how your machine performs under stress).

Basically the V2 is sitting around waiting for the processor, that's why it doesn't make much difference what graphics settings you choose. If you want to improve things, upgrade the processor to an intel chip @ 450Mhz or higher, or an AMD Athlon. Grab another V2 also, HUDs look great at 1024x768!
