CPU Type Question

Ok ever get the feeling you might have wasted some money?

Well a while back I asked someone on this forum what was the fastest CPU I could run on an older ASUS A7V266 motherboard and was told it would run an XP 2400 at 266 MHZ. So now I've bought the thing the max I can set the multiplier to is 12x . Now if my calculations are correct I need a multiple of x15 in order to run it at 2000mhz.

The latest MB BIOS (one up from my current one) doesnt mention that it increases the multiplier only DRAM inprovements.

Is anyone else here running a similar spec who can help or is 1600mhz the fastest this MB will let me run it at.

Cheers

What Bios version you got?, I know the latest BIOS 1011 supports up to XP2600, BIOS 1010 only supports XP2200

on Win XP all you need to do is put the disk in, right click on A drive, select format and tick the "create an MS-DOS startup disk".

Once you have created the startup disk all you need to do is put AFLASH.EXE onto that disk and the bios onto another (or that one if there is room)

once you have booted into DOS with the disk just run AFLASH.EXE

Just for reference, the format command line is actually:
Code:
format a:
Minus the / (or, \ in fact, this being DOS). The presence of / will have confused it :)

However, creating the MS DOS startup disk from the GUI is what you needed to do, and format wont have done that for you.

Shovel, in dos to make a system disk you type 'format a:/ s'

Typing 'format a:' only formats the disk only

I need needed a system disk to run the Bios flash programme

....just for the record:)
