CPU operating temps

does anyone know a safe operating temperature for an Ahtlon 1.1GHZ? idle its at 42 and goes to maybe 49 C during games such as BF1942 or RtCW. are these safe temperatures or is my heatsink buggerd? it says on the box "for Ahtlon xp upto +2200" so surely it should be doing the job?

Its fine, tbh as long as you can keep it below 50 you're doing fine.

Temperature is a weird issue. As a rule of thumb, does it crash when I do anything intensive? If you can say no, its fine.

Not that I have a CPU running at almost 70C under load.;)

65 - 70c is the danger zone where random 'bad things' will start to happen, on Athlons that is. Not sure about Intel chips, although I hear AMD chips do run at a slightly higher temperature anyway.

Use SiSoft Sandra, you can run a 'burn' test to really hammer your CPU for 30 mins. If it doesnt hang then your fine and quit worrying about it ;)

I run Seti@home every night, and it seems stable enough. I've never quite hit 70C, it tops out at 69C.

I have an 1800XP thats been running seti 24/7 for the last week and a half. Its currently at 37C! Then again, I do have 3 of the worlds biggest fans mounted in my case and the biggest dual fan heatsink I could find :D

(The case fans aren't even turned up to full cos it sounds like a hoover running if I do  )

I just updated my BIOS to Verson 1010 and my CPU Temperature (I have an Athlon XP2200) has fallen by 10C .

My temperatures are now....

CPU: 33C(91F)
MB: 28C(88F)

Graphics Card Chip temperature : 53C(127F)

I have 4 fans from PC Worlds OEM Section and a GlobalWin FSP82 heatsink and fan from aria.

The best bit about it is all these fans and they make hardly any noise

On the AMD site they used to say that their Athlons opperate up to 80 oC but I guess thats using a better measure than your onboard probe.
I have the 2.2 GHz and the upper temp on mine under load is 40-45 oC. Biggest change that lowered temps for me was getting a full tower.
