I have been investigating this 'capped rate' internet access via ISDN and CABLE, a lot recently, and an advert by Cable And Wireless in this morning's edition of the Daily Mail caught my eye.
Bascially, for £145.00 they will install an ISDN line and terminal adaptor in your home. Nothing special you might think, except the small print at the bottom:
"Prices are exclusive of VAT and connect at time of going to press. ISDN line... blah blah...
Then it says:
Line rental is £30.00 per month and unlimited internet access is available for a total monthly line rental from £65.00.. "
Now, this got my attention - unlimited ISDN access to the net for (or rather, from) £65.00 a month? Brilliant.. so, I phoned them up. To make sure like.. to make sure they weren't deliberately writing misleading ads..
Which of course, they are.
The C&W Customer support person said that "no, it does not mean you get unlimited internet access for that price.. yes, I *know* that is what the advert says... yes, it *is* cleverly worded..."
So, I phone up, challenge the advert, and get told that yes, they are indeed misleading words, and that I wasn't the only one to phone up about this incredible offer.
Cable and Wireless are Liars. This is NOT the first time they have run this advert - its been running for weeks (although they have since knocked £50.00 off the startup installtion fee).
